I am unable to right click any files in any program - I simply get a program is not responding error and must end it in task manager - I am also unable to chose "File" from the menu in explorer. any help would be appreciated. I have run every step prior to posting and come up empty. I downloaded some files on limewire recently and am thinking that this is whiu I can now not delete files, rename files or move files.

Welcome hac5x3 to Geeks to Go!

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Ok I attempted to add these registry entries and did so succesfully, ran a few registry repair programs and fixed all teh registry problems and still have the problem. I wanted to add that McAfee indicated thart it was unable to erase a number of "pup" files (potentially unwanted programs" after running a video I downloaded off limewire - any help wuld still be greatly appreciated.

Let's see if this helps.

Download the following file and unzip it to your desktop. Then doubleclick it and grant permission to merge the registry entries.

No luck again - very frustrated. what's the most drastic thing I can do next to correct this - was thinking about removing some programs or re-installing windows after backing up my files. Here is a copy of the error report that was send to Microsoft when used the taskmanager to close explorer after right clicking and getting a no-repsonsive program error:

I appreciatre all the effort, but nothing has changed. Under System information, internet explorer, List of Objects this is what comes up:

I googled Mediaaccess and it appears to be spyware. But nothing I ran seems to detect it. Can you help me remove it entirely? Maybe that has something to do with it?

Let's see if there's any spyware installed we don't see in the log.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on the button "Save list"
  • Copy and past the List from notepad into your post
You can savely remove this one:

I did a google search for "when i right click" and I came up with this response to a similar problem on another site:

You have a damaged shell extension.
ShellExView is a freeware utility to selectively disable them.
http://www.nirsoft.n...s/shexview.html

I downlaoded the program and disabled all of the non-microsoft file extensions and I can now right click - I am going to one by one reenable them until I find the bad shell extension - delete that and reinstall the program. Thnaks for your help and I hope this will be useful to everyone in the future.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll let my collegues know.

Shall we have a look at that uninstall list or you want me to close the topic?

EDIT:
