Alright, I have a machine I have been trying to clean for the past three days now, it was absolutely full of spyware and adware but I have gotten it down to just a small problem, but I can't clean it completely! So I'm hoping someone here with a little more experience in this stuff can give me a hand.

The last thing I did yesterday was boot into safemode, and run CCleaner and CleanUp!, then I ran Ewido, it found CoolWebSearch so I delete it permenently, ran CWshredder, rebooted, cleaned the temp again, and Ewido came up clean, so I ran Microsoft AntiSpyware, which found Trojan.BHO.Nameshifter.FC and Adware.DBar. I removed both of those, rebooted and did the whole thing again. This time CWshredder, Ewido, MS AntiSpyware, Spybot, Adaware, and Symantec AntiVirus all came up clean. So far I have been in safemode the whole time with the ethernet cable unplugged, and so I took a HijackThis log while still in safemode.

It looked clean to me, but I'm no expert, so I rebooted in normal mode, and right when I got going, MS Antispy found the Trojan coming back, as well as Adware.Dbar, and my host file is messed up again. Keep in mind I haven't plugged in the ethernet cable again, so it's not pulling this stuff off the internet, it's still on my machine somewhere! Here is the HijackThis log after I rebooted in normal mode:

Click here to download the Hoster. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and doubleclick on hoster.exe. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit the program.

Click here, for instructions on how to enable hidden files and folders to be visible. After enabling, find, zip and send this file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\secserv.exe

to this e-mail address including a link to this thread in the body of the email.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5483427F-93B8-1470-5A89-E6B56484CDB2} - C:\DOCUME~1\YUQING~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\itwjuhudchk.dll

Exit HijackThis when done. Reboot, rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here.

Alright, I did everything you said, rebooted, and so far there hasn't been anything popping up or attempting to re-install. Here is the new Hijackthis log file:

Yes I did, right before I posted that, so it should be getting to you shortly. If you don't recieve it soon, let me know and I will re-send it.

The subject was "secserve.exe", so it just hit me that a subject like that isn't going to get through many filters...

Thanks got it now. It's bad - looks like a new trojan - delete it.

Your log looks good now - is it still running OK?

I deleted the file right after I made the zip (and a backup on my mac just in case).

The machine seems to be running fine, but Ewido just found two more instances of CoolWebSearch, so I removed them and rebooted, and I am running the scan again, so if anything new pops up I will let you know.

I'm sorry I did not, I cleared it before I knew this was a new trojan.

No problem, let me know if your current scan comes up clean and I'll close the topic.

Sorry for the late response, after I got the machine back onto the internet and updated all the definitions for all the programs, one more instance of Abetterinternet popped up, but since then things have been clean, so go ahead and close this thread.

Thank you very much for your help, I would not have been able to clear this machine without your assistance. I'll be sure to send you a paypal donation, it won't be much I'm afraid, but I will give what I can.

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?
