So, i own a Compaq presario 2200 which runs with windows XP. For some unknown reason, recently everytime i try to play any type of music file, the speakers start to static. I have no idea how this could have happened and any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to G2G:

Are the speakers installed/plugged in correctly? What windows are you using? What speakers are you using?

Start >> Right-click my computer >> Properties >> Hardware tab >> Device Manager >> Sound, video and game controllers
This should help you.
