Looks like you still have remnants of it there. For those O1 entries in HijackThis (see below), if you know what they are for, you may leave them alone. Otherwise, fix them also:

Download smitRem at http://noahdfear.gee.../click.php?id=1 and save the file to your desktop.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and read the Ewido setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee.../ewidosetup.htm. Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow the download and setup instructions at http://rstones12.gee...areSE_setup.htm. Otherwise, check for updates. Don't run it yet!

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.4 obi400
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.4 qobi400
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.5 obivpn
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.6 ntsvr1
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.11 LBWork
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.10 pyrl
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.4 OBII5
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RegSvr32] C:\WINDOWS\System32\msmsgs.exe

Run the smitRem.exe tool you downloaded earlier. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
* You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
* If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
* Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'.
* If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now.
* When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Close Ewido.

Next go to Control Panel->Display->Desktop->Customize Desktop->Web-> Uncheck 'Security Info' if present.

Reboot back into Windows and go to http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm to do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked. Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido log.

I followed your steps and the pandasoft scan would not run. It would start for a couple of minutes and then close the window. I tried a couple of times
Anyway, here are the rest of the logs.
Here is my HiJackThis log
The host table entries are legit. They are for servers on my network.

Do you know if these are correct entries in your hosts file? If not, or unsure, fix them in HijackThis:

O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.4 obi400
O1 - Hosts: 216.179.115.4 qobi400

Restart and try running Panda again.

So far, it looks good. How is it running? If that Panda log comes up clean, you should be good to go.

Sorry I have not responded back before today.

The host table entries are okay.

I still can't run the Panda scan. It keeps dying about 1/4 of the way thru or so.

The PC seems to be running fine, no popups. Howerever, whenever I run Spybot, it finds about 43 different instances of Smitfraud-c and it can't remove.

Does Panda always freeze on a certain file or folder? If so, what is the file/folder name/path?

For Spybot, uninstall it. Restart your computer and go to C:\Program Files\ and make sure the Spybot folder is not there. Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\Linda\Application Data\ and make sure a Spybot is not there either. If they are present, delete them. If they are not there anymore, now reinstall Spybot. Check for updates and run a new scan. Smitfraud still detected?

I have uninstalled Spybot completely and re-installed and still finds 43 instances of Smitfraud-C

The pandasoft scan just ends after a couple of minutes, I can't really see what specific file or folder it is scanning.

I re-ran HiJackThis and here is the log

Since it's reporting smitfraud still, I will ask you to run the procedure again. Try Panda again at the end after you restart.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.

Save the scan log.

Then post the Panda log here along with the logs for HijackThis, smitfiles.txt and Ewido.

No need for the Spybot log in most cases, but this one doesn't show me any signs of it. So yes, post it here.

I tried running the Pandasoft scan one more time just for the [bleep] of and I think I was able to see where the scan seems to die. The directory it was scanning is
C:\Documents and Settings\JASON\Application Data\Phoenix\Profiles\default\qt5rveos.slt\Cache

JASON is just another user on the PC. I have no idea what this application is.

Not sure if you still have smitfraud. You should be clean, but try this:

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. Close the Registry Editor now. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:
