I am in great need of somebody to help me with an issue I have with my Armada M700 notebook.

I bought a new CD-RW/DVD ROM a while ago and tried installing it. No joy, so I took it to a little shop nearby and was told that my OS was not good enough to handle this upgrade.

So I installed XP Pro recently and tried again. Now I just get beeps and error messages, and "system halted". No good to me!

Hence I tried upgrading my BIOS. No joy there either.

The new drive is a Sony CRX830E.

I was in correspondence with a member of this forum but I seem to have lost the thread. Thank you to you anyway.

Can somebody tell me is the drive even compatible at all?!?! The guy I bought it from it says that it is.
