I just had my computer returned to me after a month in the shop--some windows corruption problem. Seems to be common with XP... Anyway, the old hard drive is now the slave to a new hard drive put in during repairs. And, luckily, all of the data on the old hard drive remains.

My problem is this: The operating system is now based in the new drive, and all of the old user names and settings are gone from the system. And my question is can those user names and files on the old hard drive be restored and infused back into the operating system on the new drive, so that the user names can be used again? Or will I just have to create new user names on the new drive and do alot of copying and pasting, reinstalling, and reconfiguring?

I've tried the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard," but I think that only works for transferring from different computers entirely. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

I just want to know if there's a quick way to get my old user name back.

You can't simply copy these profiles, you'll need to recreate the user names, and then use the files and transfer wizard to transfer the setting and files for each user.
