hi, I need help in removing a lot of annoying pop-ups whenever I use the internet. Said pop-ups include winfixer, loadingwebsite, paypopup, 888.com, win anti-virus pro, acconna, msn search, and a whole load of others.

I have already run adaware se, spybot search and destro, cwshredder, and norton anti-virus, plus the windows update. But despite these, those annoying pop-ups won't go away! (they even hijacked my browser when I run mozilla firefox instead of explorer!) Help please!

okay, and i just noticed this, it says Windows XP SP2 in my hijack this logfile...that can't be good right? (based on what I read in the intro thread on what to do before posting a hijack this logfile).

Anyway, thanks in advance.

Here is my log-file:

Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Hi, I would just like to add that sometimes, when I'm using the internet, my cpu automatically reboots itself, which is quite annoying.
Around 5 seconds before the auto-reboot, the windows toolbar will flash and turn white (instead of the normal blue).

thanks for the help again.

Hello ;)

Thanks for the information, we'll get it sorted :tazz:

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log (make sure your new HiJackThis log doesn't have all the spaces, please), and we'll clean up what's left. :)

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Hello :tazz:

Please follow all instructions below exactly. For your next HijackThis log, when notepad opens up go up to "Format" and uncheck "Word Wrap", then copy it and paste it here ;)

Important note When you're running Ewido it MUST be in Safe Mode and please do not open any windows, run any other programs or do anything else on the system while Ewido is running!

First, download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, if it does go ahead and reboot.

Then, please download Ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.
  • Now open Ewido Security Suite.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "remove", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit Ewido
Reboot into normal mode.

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Save the results from ActiveScan.

I need you to post the log from Ewido, the log from ActiveScan and a new HiJackThis log.

I can't connect to the pandasoftware website to do an active scan. A dialog box pops up and says that "The connection was refused when attemting to connect to pandasoftware.com". I'm using mozilla firefox btw, if that's relevant.

here's my new hijack this log:

It's looking better :tazz:

But, yes, in order to run ActiveScan you must use Internet Explorer. I really need to see an ActiveScan log.

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to the following items, if found, and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Configuration] wincfg32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Configuration] wincfg32.exe

O16 - DPF: {4208FB4D-4E53-4F5A-BF7A-3E047DDB5281} (ActiveX Control) - http://www.icannnews.../ST/ActiveX.ocx
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.r...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Close HiJackThis and delete the following file if present:

C:\Windows\System32\wincfg32.exe

Then please run ActiveScan and post the log for me.

thanks for the quick reply. :)

I removed (fixed) those 4 in hijack this.
Also the wincfg32.exe file is not present in the C:\Windows folder.

I used explorer to open the pandasoftware website, but all I'm getting is a page cannot be found (cannot find server). ;)

Let's try a different scanner that is java-based so that you can run it while using Mozilla. :tazz:

Please go to the TrendMicro website HERE
  • Click Check my PC now
  • On the next page it will verify that Trendmicro scan can be run.
  • There should be 4 green checkmarks, if any of them stay a red X please let me know which one(s)
  • Read the agreement, the click continue with Next Step
  • Wait for the scanner to load, if you get a security warning about the Trend-Micro applet, click YES
  • It will install "Core-Packages", then please run the scan - save the results and post them here.
