Hey --

This is the second forum I have turned to for help. The first had me post a Hijack this log file, which did find something. We got rid of that and then ran a bitdefender... which said my system was clean.

However, my computer is still crashing.

I did a scan with Spyware Doctor, which siad it found Specific 911. From googling, it seems it is really hard to detect and remove. Others have had similar problems. One site mentioned backdoors, which flood the computer with Adaware... this could be why I am forced to run a couple of spybot programs every 15-20 minutes to keep my computer running.

My spyware programs are a2, spyware blaster, adaware, spybot, and spysubtract.

Here is my current Hijack This log file:

I don't see anything offhand.

Let's try two things:

Run a free scan here:

http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm

You will need to use Internet Explorer to download.

* Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Hey, I don't know how long until my computer crashes, but it is acting very badly. Frequent crashes... I can't seem to figure out what is causing it.

I will try what you suggested above, but my computer will more than likely crash before I can do it.

Here is the most recent Hijack this log, in case you can spot anything.

Okay, I left the POP this file, because that's a program I use, same with Webshots. If you feel I can get rid of those without damaging their programs, I will do so.

EDIT: My computer is now telling me one of my drives may have develiped bad sectors, and it wants to perform a surface scan. It took more than an hour and was only halfway done last night, so I aborted before it finished. What could be causing this.

I tried running the Pandasoft scan again, but my computer crashed before it finished. It did find 4 examples of spyware before it froze up.

I also tried running the silent runners program, but I can't seem to find the file once it has finished. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Here is my new Hijack This log file.

Save the silent runners log to your desktop.

Have you tried defragging and doing a scandisc of your machine? That could help a great deal.

Also, try CleanUp!

Please download CleanUp! - Download - HomePage
Install and run. Click on the button labeled CleanUp!.

When it finishes it will prompt you to restart Windows - there will be one or two files it cannot delete when Windows is running - however, they will be deleted next time Windows starts up.

I let the computer run a surface scan, but it found nothing. I did as you suggested a ran a clean up: seems to have freed up 1 gig, if I read that right.

Not sure what a defragging is... however, I finally was able to get a silent runners log.

Here is the print out:

"Silent Runners.vbs", revision 40.1, http://www.silentrunners.org/
Operating System: Windows 98
Output limited to non-default values, except where indicated by "{++}"

Scan disc takes a very long time, particularly if you haven't done it before. Turn off your screensavers and start it when you go to bed. Don't connect to the internet.

Go to start>>accessories>>system tools>>scan disc

When that is completed, the next thing you will do is defrag.

Follow the same instructions, but choose defrag in the accessories menu.

I shut down my web shots screen daver, my spy ware guard, and my sygate firewall... but the scan disk had to keep restarting. Any idea what other programs might have to be shut down so that the scan disk can be completed?

It will restart, but will ask you if you want it to keep restarting. Click no.

Okay, a little confused here.

The message is something along the lines that it has restarted 10 times because another program(s) are writing to the disk at the same time. Then it asks if I would like to continue receiving this message: yes, no, or cancel.

If I say I don't want to receive the message, does that mean it will continue the scan disk until the end of time, always restarting... or does it mean it will get the scan disk done, but just take forever to do it.

Also, I used to be able to reliably run my spybot program, but now it often crashes due to lack of system resources... which I take to mean there are more spyware programs on my computer now. At least that is my guess.

don't worry about the sybot program for now. Let's do the above first. :tazz:
