A few weeks ago I turned on my computer to find all kinds of problems. Norton anti-virus was telling me that my computer was infected with a Bloodhound.W32.EP. My desktop background had been replaced with a HTML page, and I couldn’t change it back. When Norton first informed me about the infection, it said that the following file was infected: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\oleext32.dll. Later it said that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\shdocsv.dll was infected. Now it tells me that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wininet.dll is infected.

I ran though the steps in the thread titled “You Must Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log, Required steps before posting your log.”, that your site suggests in the case of a Bloodhound.W32.EP. It got rid of the HTML background problem, but Norton still tells me that I have the Bloodhound.W32.EP. Can you please help me heal my sick computer.

  • Double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool.
  • Follow the prompts on screen.
  • Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
  NOTE:The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.
  
  
• Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.
  
  
• Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Close Ewido
• Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.
  
  
• REBOOT back into Normal Mode
  
  
• Click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut
  • Do a full system scan.
  • Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
• Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

The problem is you do not have a replacement for this file on your system so we will create one.

1. Locate wininet.dll in your system folder.

2. Right-click to copy it (make sure you don't cut it!), then paste it on the desktop.

3. . Please download the 30-day free trial of Kaspersky anti virus

• Install the program
• Run the definition update module.
• Scan your whole system.
• When it gets to wininet.dll on your desktop, MAKE SURE that it doesn't get deleted, just cleaned
• When finished, REBOOT your system

4. Once it's cleaned, Rename wininet.dll in the system folder to wininet.old,

5. Finally copy the clean one off the desktop and paste it into the system folder.
