My most annoying problem is the Winfixer 2005 pop-up where it asks me to istall Winfixer. I can't seem to get rid of the Look2Me. Every time I run CWS Shredder, it's there. And in my Add/Remove programs, there is the OIN (OuterInfo Network), which I have no idea how to get rid of. Besides all of this, i get the usual pop-ups. Even if I don't have IE open, it will open itself with a pop-up.
HELP PLEASE!!!

Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and reply here with your log.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Ok, let's get started then.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Firstly, we need to disable the following protection features since they might hinder the removal of bad entries.

Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon (looks like a target) and click on Security Agents Status (Enabled) and click on Disable Real-time Protection. To re enable it, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection.

Right-click on the CounterSpy Icon located in your system tray.
With your mouse, hover over Active Protection Status (This should be enabled)
A menu will slide out, then right click on Disable Active Protection

You have a nasty CoolWebSearch infection. First we will need to download a few tools that will help us in the removal of your problem.

Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY Here.
Download CWShredder Here.
Download SpSeHjfix Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Unzip SpSeHjfix to its own folder (ie c:\SpSeHjfix)

Run the CleanUp! installer. You dont need to do anything with it right now.

Update About:Buster
  • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
  • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
  • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
  • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
  • Now close About:Buster
Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please run about:buster by RubbeRDuckY:
  • Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
  • Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
  • When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
  • Reboot your computer into safe mode again
Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Now run SpSeHjfix. A log will be saved in the same folder that you put the exe into. Please post the results of that log in your next reply.

Now run CleanUp! Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files. REBOOT!!

Please run an free online anti-virus scan; Kaspersky or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

After all that, please post back with how things went as well as the logs requested and a new HiJackThis log.

Hi landa321,

Rawe had to go out of town unexpectedly and he asked me to take over.

If you look at the active scan log, you can see that you have numerous infections in your inbox for your email. You need to delete those without opening them up.

Just a few random bad files and folders to clean up.

Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\TONYL\FAVORITES\1111
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cache32dsrf4535dfs

Let me know how your computer is running and if oyu have any problems.

thanks Excal.
I am still getting the pop-ups. I haven't really opened up my Outlook in a couple of months because of all the spam.

I still have the OIN listed in my add/remove programs. I ran CWS shredder and VX2.Look2Me is still there.

Here is a new Hijack this log:

Ahhh, ok, i see the L2m :tazz: lets take care of that: Make sure you clean out those folders in your outlook regardless, they are viruses in there.

You may have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
  • One
    Two
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
  • After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. ;)
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Then..

Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix

Was I supposed to press enter after choosing #4?
I did and it created a log and then I selected 2.
It rebooted, but when it booted back up, the desktop and icons did not disappear. and it doesn't look like L2mfix is doing anything.

How should I proceed?
