Hi guys. Great site. Had a look through to see what you had recomended to other people with this prob. I have tried deleting the nvcpl.dll, but it just comes back again. I have run about 5 different virus/spyware checkers, but nothing seems to pick it up. I get a little warning when I turn my comp on since I deleted the file directly myself. My comp takes about 3 mins to shut down now, and has randomly restarted itself for no reason. Also, when I use chat rooms, the Java doesn't work properly so I can't scroll down, although I don't know if this is related. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Hello, welcome to the GeekstoGo Forums!

My name is Justin, and I will be helping you clean up your system. Lets get started!

I need you to download MWav to a convenient location.

This scan might take around 3+ hours to finish when set to scan everything.
I need you to run MWav by double-clicking on mwav.exe.
Put a check next to the below items before scanning:
  • Memory
  • Startup Folders
  • Drive - All Local Drives
  • Folder - then click "browse" to change the directory to C: (default is C:\Windows)
  • Registry
  • System Folders
  • Services
  • Include Sub-Directory
  • Scan All Files
Please make sure ALL of these are checked, then press the Scan button. This typically will take hours to complete.

**NOTE*** Sometimes MWav will pause and it appears to be finished, but it isn't done. Just let it run until it says it's complete.

On the bottom portion of the window, you will see the lower panel where MWav is listing "infected items". When it's done scanning, please highlight everything in that lower panel and copy them by holding CTRL + C then paste it here. The whole log will be extremely BIG so there is no way to post the log. I just need the infected items list.

Hello!

Sorry for all of the scans, but this will be the easiest way to figure out what the problem is. :tazz:

Please update, configure, and run Ad-aware and Spybot S&D as below:
Make sure you're using the latest version of Ad-aware(Ad-aware SE 1.06) If you're using an older version, download Ad-aware SE Personal 1.06 and install it.

Before scanning with Ad-aware SE Free:
Run a FULL adaware scan using the following configuration below
  • Update
    • Select Check for updates.
    • Then Connect and download SE1R28 16.02.2005 .
  • Click Start
  • Select Perform Full System Scan and hit Next to let Ad-Aware scan your drives.
  • It will list malware files and registry keys. Click Next.
  • Under the Critical Objects tab, rightclick in the list, choose Select All, then Next.
  • It will ask for verification of checked items-. Choose OK.
  • Close Ad-Aware, Shut down and reboot your system.
Scanning in Spybot Search and Destroy:

1. Download and Install Spybot S&D, accepting the Default Settings
(Please ensure you have version 1.3 final.)
Home - The home of Spybot-S&D!: http://www.safer-networking.org/
Here is a nice Tutorial http://www.safer-net...p?page=tutorial

2. Go to Start > Programs >Spybot Search & Destroy and choose 'Spybot S&D'

3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D

4. Click the button 'Search for Updates' and download and install the Updates.

5. Next click the button 'Check for Problems'

6. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing 'RED' (RED) entries BLACK entries and GREEN (GREEN) entries in the window

7. Make sure there is a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.

8. Choose Fix Selected Problems and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

9. REBOOT

Also, run at least 2 of these online virus scans:

Housecall<<<Put on 'Autoclean' and delete what it can't clean.
Panda ActiveScan<<<Accept default settings, save and post the log
RAV online scan<<<Add a check by 'Autoclean', leave everything else as is.
eTrust Antivirus Web Scan<<<'Cure' whatever is found, then delete if unsuccessful
Bitdefender ScanOnline<<<Place a check by everything under 'Scan Options'.
Command on Demand

Also run an online trojan scan here: http://www.trojanscan.com/
Reboot when finished.

Re-run HijackThis and post the new log.

Hello!

PandaScan should have given you a document of what it found and if it was fixed or not. Could you please post that for me?

Thanks! :tazz:

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..

  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Cheers for all the help dude - the main point is that it hasn't randomly restarted again (which was the big prob). It is still a lot slower starting up and powering down than it used to be (although that could well be down to other stuff), and I still get the 'nvcpl.dll missing' at startup after I tried to delete it. Any ideas of how to get rid of that at the startup ?

Good news!

NvCpl.dll is part of a nvidia graphics card

Nvidia Control Panel Display Properties Extensions applet. When it is running this startup and background task displays the additional Nvidia-specific tabs when you go into “Display Properties” . Through these tabs you can configure the advanced features of your Nvidia or Nvidia-based graphics cards, something you cannot do through Windows’ standard display configuration tabs.

Are you using a nvidia card in your computer stuff?

Have updated the NVidida display driver, and everything works now as it did before !! One of those programs must have got rid of whatever was shutting my comp down. Cheers for all the help dude. Much appreciated.

:tazz: :)
