I did follow all the links in the help section for Spyware, Viruses, and Trojans. I turned on all the stuff in MSCONFIG that were turned off. Thanks, Hal

Excal,

It's kind of odd.

Windows is relatively slow while I'm online.

Coincidentally, about 3 weeks ago, I noticed that when my laptop was off (it's my only wireless device), my wireless router and cable modem were blinking send/receive almost constantly.

At first, I figured that my WEP code had been hacked by a local kid or someone else so I changed the access codes, and it seemed to work. Then within a week it started happening again.

When I signed into the router log-in screen as the administrator, I saw two wireless devices attached- my laptop and a machine called XHTR8HVC4P. So on a hunch, I typed that machine's name into Google, and I came up with tons of matches that, once read, led me to believe that my machine was hijacked in some way.

How it's affecting my router, I'm not sure. How it's affecting my machine, I'm not sure either. All I know, is that when I downloaded all of the software listed in this forum, it started to find tons of stuff to be deleted on my machine.

As far as the svchost.exe, I read more before I got your answer. I'm pretty sure there is a virus out there that is compromising the file to run erroneus svchost.exe programs to slow your machine down. I'd bet money I read about it about 6 weeks ago somewhere on the intrnet, but I'll be damned if I can find it now.

I'm not a computer illiterate, but this deeper windows stuff is a mystery to me.

Thanks,
Hal

Ok, lets run a silent runner and see if there is a hidden file out there.
  • Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

  • NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
  • Once it's done it will create a log. A window will come up telling you when it's saved. Please post that log here

Have you disabled anything in MSCONFIG? Can you please check, and if there are some that are unchecked in there, can you please recheck them, reboot and post a fresh hijackthis log.

Thanks,

:tazz:

Sorry,

After the first hijack log, I did manually disable some things in msconfig

I will turn them back on, reboot, and send you updated hijackthis and silentrunner logs.

Do you have a wireless connection and if you do is it secure?

I need you to download MWav to a convenient location.

This scan might take around 3+ hours to finish when set to scan everything.
I need you to run MWav by double-clicking on mwav.exe.
Put a check next to the below items before scanning:
  • Memory
  • Startup Folders
  • Drive - All Local Drives
  • Folder - then click "browse" to change the directory to C: (default is C:\Windows)
  • Registry
  • System Folders
  • Services
  • Include Sub-Directory
  • Scan All Files
Please make sure ALL of these are checked, then press the Scan button. This typically will take hours to complete.

**NOTE*** Sometimes MWav will pause and it appears to be finished, but it isn't done. Just let it run until it says it's complete.

On the bottom portion of the window, you will see the lower panel where MWav is listing "infected items". When it's done scanning, please highlight everything in that lower panel and copy them by holding CTRL + C then paste it here. The whole log will be extremely BIG so there is no way to post the log. I just need the infected items list.

Excal,

With regard to a secure connection, it's only as secure as the WEP is secure. It's encoded at 128 bits.

Here's the log............
