Okay, i'm using win 2k professional, it's my roommate's computer, it's a few years old...

i keep getting the winfixer/look2me, virtual bouncer, coolwebsearch, ezula, and addestroyer - all keep coming back no matter what i freakin do.

i've ran spybot, ad-aware, cwshredder, ewido, antivir (avg won't install), cccleaner, and deleted anything i found that was obvious out of hijack this.... here is the current scan....

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

okay. i did everything you said - but i can't delete sumpapi.dll.

did everything in safe mode w/o networking....

i even tried to boot in safe mode w/ command prompt - and then it says it can't find the file....

now, i just rebooted in safe mode with networking, and the first thing that happened when i opened a browser to type this is a freakin winfixer popup. ugh.

i also forgot - when i ran l2mfix i had two warnings pop up that said

c:\winnt\system32\cmd.exe
... autoexec.nt - the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications... etc

i clicked ignore on both and i recieved the log that you see above.

OK, are you posting these scan logs in Safe Mode? If so, please don't. HijackThis must be scanned in Normal Mode only.

But let's do this first since we need to use L2MFix (yes, you got option 5 correct to fix that issue ):

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2MFix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

okay thank you for responding - i *was* running hijack this in safe mode (sorry!) - when i get home tonight i'll follow those steps...

one question though - should i run l2mfix option 2 in safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, or regular mode?

HijackThis fixes are ok in safe mode. But the scan (to post the log here) must be in normal mode.

is there any chance i could do something damaging by running option 2 in normal mode? since that is the log from safe mode?

I don't think there would be any difference, but no damages should occur. If any does, it will most likely do damage in safe mode also. But we have backups in case something like this happens.

Since you're in Normal Mode, just run the fix in Normal Mode (option #2). We usually don't ask users to boot into Safe Mode to run L2MFix.

Well, that didn't come out right

I want you to run L2MFix with option #2 again. The log should be much longer than that. If not, then I want you to do this manually. Go into the l2mfix folder and double click on second or second.bat to run it. Post that log here for me to review.

The thing is that I saw some bad entries/files there before so I want to make sure they are gone now.
