if it is a reg file.... which that looks safe, double click on the file. it would aske about megring or insrting etc in to the registry, click yes.

If I remember correctly with taskbar adjustments in the registry, you will need to log out and lof back in for settings to take effect.

Hi! I'm having problems with my stupid computer. Can any one help me? The problem is this. I typed on google "ctrl, alt, and delete doesn't work" It gave lists of places and I just happened to click on this first. Well the person on here had the same problem as me. I followed darth ash's directions but it didn't work for me. I typed cmd and it says not there. I downloaded the stuff he gave out but it still hasn't worked. I'm very confused :tazz: Can any one help me?

Hi Help meee,

My name is Tony, Welcome to Geeks to go.

As I understand you cannot run task manager.

Please READ MY INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY.

I'm going to get you to check that this is not disabled in 2 areas of the registry.

Click on:

Start>Run

Type is REGEDIT and press the enter key.

please navagate your way to this:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
System

Is there a key there with the REG_DWORD called: DisableTaskMgr

If so what is the number there?
Is it: 0x00000001 (1) or 0x00000000 (0)?

I also would like you to check:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
System

Is there a key there with the REG_DWORD called: DisableTaskMgr

If so what is the number there?
Is it: 0x00000001 (1) or 0x00000000 (0)?

DON'T MODIFY ANYTHING JUST YET!

Hey don't know if anyone can help but I'm still stuck

I've tried all the above suggestions and no help.
Start>Run CMD and Start>Run REGEDIT do not work, althought I can access both the prompt and the Registry editor by finding their folders.

None of the regfixes or disk scans recommended did anything for me (though I opened and applied them all succesfully)

I also have a HijackThis log if anyone would like to see it.

As for Tony's instructions I went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
System
it reads: DisableTaskMgr REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

as for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
System

there is no key with the REG_DWORD called DisableTaskMgr

I know it has been a while since these posts but I really need help. This is the second computer I've been given with this problem and the first one didn't quite make it.
