On a 20gb test HDD, I've installed Linux Mandriva Limited Ed 2005.....3x.
Each time after install i get the error message that there is no bootable OS.

I'm a complete newbie to Linux. I basically took all the defaults on install, bar configuring the on board nic etc. I did notice however my USB optical mouse was not recognized during install, so i plugged in a normal PS2 and that worked fine.

I just can't get the system to boot.

I'm not really sure what other sort of info to post. So let me know what you need to know to help me out :tazz:

Thanks for any and all advice help

System specs (in case it doesn't post with my post)
Gigabyte 7VAXP motherboard
AMD XP2500 CPU
1 GB Corsair PC3200 DDR
on board lan and sound
20 GB Seagate HDD
secondary HDD's: 120 GB Seagate and 80gb WD

No as per my specs above I have 2 secondary drives
120gb Seagate and 80 GB WD
But during install i specified the 18 GB drive as the drive to install the OS on. The other 2 drives are not bootable OS drives, storage only.

I have removable HDD bays for my drives and the C drive and D drive are each in a bay. The 3rd drive is an internal drive in the case

try installing without the other two drives in their bays.....linux is great about picking up new hardware (usually) so if you get a good install on the small drive once you shut the machine down you can put the two other drives in and it should pick them up....(just grasping at straws here)

well....i do have a comment....that distro of mandriva is pretty sweet...it comes with a lot of nifty stuff in it...so i hope we can get it to work for you...if for nothing else than the fact that tux racer is pretty fun

We installed it on a different machine with only one harddrive and it installed fine.
So on my machine i'll unplug the other 2 HDD's and i should be good to go.

Quick question, if we want to check out the other desktop options (ie: gnome and the other desktops) how do we do that. It loaded with the KDE desktop

Thanks heaps :tazz:

it loaded with kde and gnome as far as being installed....i can't recal how to switch off hand.....but i belive with that instance when you get to the log on screen for mandriva there should be some little icons in the bottom left corner....by i think right clicking on one of them it gives you the option to select the environment
