I've just installed my radeon 9550 into my computer two days ago. After I installed it though, the computer just shuts down or displays a certain error message every few minutes.

The error message reads something like this: VPU recover had to reset the graphics accelerater because it wasn't responding to the commands coming from the display driver.
Can someone please help?

Oh and by the way, I used Everest to make the report of my system so that's why you might see a link or two in there. As a matter of fact, does anybody think that I should visit any of these websites and download any drivers?

Other people have problems as well and its just who gets started first and how difficult the problem is to solve. Make sure you have connected it properly. Did you check it is compatible with the computer and the bios. Try getting a bios update for the mobo. And the psu is big enough to power it. Try reinstalling windows if that doesnt work.

To upgrade your bios you should find out who made your motherboard and vist there website. If your computer was made by someone like packard bell or dell you might want to check out there websites for bios upgrades. Again the only other things I could say is make sure you have the lastest drives for the graphics card, again for this check the manufactures website. The only other thing is what warriorscot said that your psu isn't big enough to power it.

Well i said its something for him to check, it might not ne big enough. Sp you got the latest drivers but do you also have the .net 1.1 framework i just spent the best part of two days trying to get catalyst 5.7 and did a full reinstall of windows(not for that prob) just to find out i needed the .net framework and its working fine now.

What I have found about the ATI 9550

1) Overheats - Fan is not to good on it. I had the same problem with my ATI 9800 XT Pro 256meg card as well. Put an Artic PCI Slot fan on it - fit like a glove too and with the DHES blowing the hot air out the back of my PC like an exhuast system - my whole computer is cooler. No More reboots!@!

2) Drivers. From what I have read DO NOT UPDATE THE DRIVERS. Go back to version 5.2 cat drivers or use what came on the CD with the card.

Last night I upgraded my drivers for my card to Cat 6.4 something and in the game EQ2 I begain taking VPU error resets and the like. Went back to v5.2 and the crashes are gone.

Hope this helps you.
