i feel really dumb right now. i have no idea how to install the madwifi drivers for my netgear wg311t pci card. i think im alright so far: i've copied the extrated folder to the (im sorry if i mix windows lingo with linux) / (?). after that i tried a couple of the commands (cd madwifi; make; make install) and it gives me errors every time. i really have NO idea what im doing. all i can really tell you is that im running kubuntu (v 5.04), and I have no internet access with linux (yet). after i get it installed i need to set up the wep password to work with my router, so any help with that would be appreciated.

please remember, I KNOW ABSOLUTLY NOTHING ABOUT HOW TO USE LINUX, so please keep it simple.

I have no experience with setting up madwifi drivers but if could you post the errors, I'm sure someone could help out.
If you're getting errors during "make"/"make install", I'd asume you do not have all build essentials installed.
For starters, I'd try:
sudo apt-get install build-essentials
try the make/make install again and see if you get any further...If not, post the errors here and we'll go from there.
good luck :tazz:

thanks for responding :tazz:

im still running into some errors!? most like due to my inexperience and/or stupidity with linux

when i first type in the 'make command' logged in as root and in the /madwifi folder it gave my this error:

Makefile.inc:94: *** KERNELPATH must be defined. Stop.

When i tryed what you told me above (apt-get) it did something and then ran into an error:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package build-essentials

was i suposed to subsitute something in for build-essentials, and if so where would i fing this information?

here's the madwifi home page: http://madwifi.sourceforge.net/

here's another site that might be of use but i don't understand it: http://www.packetpro...wg311t_pci.html
