That is not good, something is bringing them back.

Let's run Rkfiles again, but this time in safe mode:

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please run RKFiles.bat. It may take a while. When it is finished a windows should appear with a log. Make sure that log is saved!

Restart your computer in normal mode, and please post the contents of the logfile, which should be at c:\log.txt.

Then please download DLLCompare from here:
http://downloads.sub.../DllCompare.exe
Save it to the desktop and run it. Click "Run Locate.com" to scan for DLL files. When the scan is finished, click "Compare". Finally, when that is complete, click "Make a Log of What Was Found". Please post the entire contents of the logfile here for me.

Hi Ray

Good to hear the O17's are gone..

But what troubles me is the file we killboxed is still there.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\aswBoot.exe

Now aswBoot.exe is a file that normally belongs to Avast, but runs from the Avast folder. It has no business in the system32 folder.

Please do this: Navigate to that file and right click on it then choose properties. Check the version info etc. and see if it belongs to Avast.

Post back with that information.

Regards,

Armodeluxe

Well Ray, that's very good news but still I have no idea why Avast would be placing that file in system32 folder. I guess I'll email them to find out. The important thing is, that you have a clean log now. :tazz:

Now let's reset your restore points.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please take the following into consideration to maintain a clean computer.

Visit Windows Update regularly to get the latest security updates. You can also enable automatic updates.Your antivirus software and antispyware programs should also be updated regularly. Make a habit of running scans on a timely basis. Be careful about what you download, scan every file before clicking on it.

Additional programs to consider:

Spywareblaster Prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.Restricts the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
Spywareguard An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware!
IE/Spyad
Adds a list of malicious sites to your Restricted Sites Zone.
Firefox An alternate browser safer than IE

A good article to read:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Regards,

Armodeluxe
