I'm having a terrible time with my system trying to dial internet when I don't want to, popups when I am connected, and recently the system takes 2-3 minutes to START the boot process (black screen while waiting) from a reset or initial power-on.

The attached HJT log is after I ran a full scan and cleaned with the most current Ad-Aware.

Download & install the 30 day free trial of TDS3, update it manually as described here http://tds.diamondcs...php?page=update as the trial version doesn't have auto update enabled. Don't run it yet.

Please download CleanUp! - Download - HomePage
Don't run it yet.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click
fix checked.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\DSR.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\CERES.DLL
c:\windows\system\oxvlue.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe

Using TDS3- press scan control & tick all the little boxes in the bottom part of that window, press save configuration and then close that window by pressing the red X in top right corner, then select system testing and select full system.
scan

Click on the button labeled CleanUp!.

When it finishes it will prompt you to restart Windows - there will be one or two files it cannot delete when Windows is running - however, they will be deleted next time Windows starts up.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and we'll remove what's left. :tazz:

Haven't had a chance to do anything to my computer yet, however when trying to download TDS3, their website says:

"On the 22nd July 2005 the decision was made to cease development on TDS..."

I was able to download cleanup though.

Run hijack this and put a check mark next to this one.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [oxvlue] c:\windows\system\oxvlue.exe

REboot into safe mode and find this file and delete it.

c:\windows\system\oxvlue.exe

REboot and post a new log. :tazz:

If that doesn't work:

Run hijack this:
It was 5 a.m. :tazz:

Check off the 04 entry.

Click Here to download TheKillbox. Extract TheKillBox.exe from the zip file and double click it to open it up. In the 'Enter Full Path and Filename to Delete' box, copy and paste these entries one by one, clicking 'Find and Kill This File' after each one:

c:\windows\system\oxvlue.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

Note: If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, download and run: http://www.javacools...ngfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Yeah CoachWife6! It looks like you did it. I was able to remove oxvlue.exe this time without killbox and it doesn't look like it came back. Ad-Aware removed a bunch of VX2 registry entries and now scans clean. This is what HJT looks like now, what do you think?

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :)
