[DJJ]

Hi I've run panda, spybot and adaware but can't shake the popup. Also the computer's slowed down pretty badly recently. Also in one of the user accounts - the local setting none of the icons work they say that they're not win32 programs which is worrying. ANyway here's the Hijack this log - cheers for any help!

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which may not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have the dreaded Vundo infection, which thanks to a member of staff may be fixable. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

Firstly could you please disable Microsoft Antispyware from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything. Right click on the icon (looks like an archery target) in the task bar and click on Security Agents Status (Enabled) then click on Disable Real-time Protection. To re enable it, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection.

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
• Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
  • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
• Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
• Double click on KillVundo.bat
  • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
• Please press any key to continue.
• Wait for HiJackThis to open.
• When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found: O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {84827015-AC55-4ABD-B9DB-869DD8393F94} - C:\WINDOWS\dnsurl.dll

Thanks for the help you're amazing! When the vundo fix ran a blue screen came up and complained about drvnddm.sys and then in windows there was an error message about the same file. When windows starts up there is an error message from sonic dla saying that the cd can be read but not altered I assume this is some Cd writing software unless it's somethign else (this is my mum's machine I'm trying to fix and I'm not sure what software it had preloaded on it)? Also the (as you'll no doubt see) 020 file doesn't seem to be removed by hijackthis presumably it keeps adding itself back. I'm sure you'll have the answer though (I hope!)

I am convinced it is Vundo we are looking at. Please repaet the whole fix again, other than the download. Please make sure that Microsoft Antispyware is definitely disabled.

Will do, how do I disable the driver that is being referred to so that vundo can work properly? Have uninstalled microsoft antispyware so that can't be the problem.

Well I've run the vundo file again with the same result - it freezes and it refers to the same file. Also the log file hasn't changed. Here's the full details on the crash screen - Stop: 0x0000007E (Oxc0000005, oxf883A799, 0xED1BFA88, 0xED1Bf784) drvnddm.sys - Address F883A799 base at F8836000, Datestamp 3ef39ee0, should I run the fix in safe mode?

Seems they have changed the list of possible locations for the file.

The scan may take considerably longer.

Edit: The bsod is normal as for the driver make sure no disk are in any of the removable media drives.
