Every time I boot-up my lap top the screen resolution is set to 8-bit low. I change the setting which restores the screen to my working format, but this change to the settings is not retained. It seems to take forever to start my system.

really frustrating, please help

Follow these steps:
Start->Run.
Type dxdiag. Press Enter.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool Window, click on the Display tab.
Under the Device frame, tell me the name in the Name field.
And Under the Drivers frame, tell me the value of Version and Date.

Ur drivers are outdated.
Download and install new ones, goto http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2 and follow instructions there.

I have downloaded the driver as suggested, but still not solved the problem. As before when windows starts everything looks normal. Screen displays icons correctly etc.. but within a second or two the screen goes blank and then displays in an 8bit low configaration, which can be changed in settings but the changes are not stored.

Please help
