Inherited an I-Will Pentium III-600 with Win2000 OS from father in law, used in his business. All data wiped clean except for operational OS on hard drive (HD). No restore disk nor access to any external Win2000 OS data source. That was 5 yrs. ago and served me well in that time. Computer now extremely unstable due to malware, spyware, who knows what else. Computer fits my basic needs for web surfing, email, word processing. Frustration with current functionality leads me to try and find out if there is a way to wipe the hard drive clean but preserve the Windows 2000 operating system, starting all over, if you will. Have Ad-aware, Spybot, Norton suite 2000 on the drive. All other important personal data backed up on DVD. I would say I am moderately skilled with the personal computer and Windows 2000. Is my idea feasible? Any advise would be much appreciated. I am a new member of this forum. Thanks.

If u suspect malware.
Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
