Getting pretty close to my breaking point here. Long story short, I was given a dell computer, upon starup would recieve several error messages. Tried to fix, but only removed a couple. Re-formated the machine, and re-install win 98, and that's when all [bleep] broke loose. At first couldn't get OS back on. A bunch of questions later and I got the OS back on system. Only thing is no vid. or sound drivers. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers but am getting no where.
I have obtained a copy of windows 2000. So my question is, can I just symply install windows 2000 and have it reformat using the disk, or am I just goosed here?
I did a succesful install of win 2000 on my gateway computer yesterday, which had win 98 on it originally.

Thanks for any help possible.

you should have no problems installing 2000...but it probably still wont fix the driver issue....it may...but it may not....you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers for that particular device...like the video card and the sound card...or you can go to dell.com and put in the service tag number and dl the drivers for that machine

Just thought I'd drop a line and let you know how things went. I did install win 2000, and what ever was the problem, win 2000 corrected it. Thanks for the help!
