I rearrange my desktop icons to my liking. How can I lock the icons in place so that a change in the desktop resolution, for example, won't mix the icons up again?

Hi 'baconbits'.

I think I might be able to help you with this one, to keep
your icons in the order you want them
! ;)

There is probably a setting enabled that lets the icons arrange
themselves automatically. :tazz:

1. Go to your desktop background picture and right click on it.

2. Select Arrange Icons

3. Uncheck Auto Arrange.

4. Lock web items on desktop.

I sure hope this works...let us know.
Sincerely, Janie :)

good advice janie...but...unfortunately...as far as my experinece goes...any time you change the screen resolution....auto arrange or not....when the screen redraws it will usually stick those icons wherever it wants them to be...every time ive had to change a screen res the desktop gets confabulated....moves them with no rhyme or reason...not in order...not all in the same columns....its just a function of the redraw.... unless you're changing screen res like every day it should be a non issue.

My husband changes the resolution under his user name about every week -- depending upon whether he's playing a game, logging into his work, watching a dvd, etc. When he changes his resolution, it resets my icons.

I've searched under Windows Knowledge Base, but haven't found a solution.

If anyone has an idea about how I can lock my rearranged desktop icons, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks so much!

Just wondering,
If you create a new folder on your desktop and put the icons in it .
Would they stay in the same order every time the folder was opened ?

I have the perfect solution, but I first have to find out if I can attach a zip file to a post. If not, I may be able to attach the individual files. I would point you to the download, but I can't find it anymore! :tazz:

Good Morning all.
Makai...I clicked on that address and I think you have solved baconbit's
problem....case closed. :(

For me and my icons, they stay put by the method in post #2.
The only way they move is if I right click on them and drag them to a
different location.

The reason they stay put, is because in the 3 1/2 years I have had my computer,
I have never changed the resolution and I think I am the only one that posts
here at GEEKS that has NEVER had my computer in safe mode. ;)

I guess I haven't had a reason to....YET.

Sincerely, Janie :(

FANTASTIC!! Looks great! I'll try it right now.

My husband must have been on my (really our) laptop last nite, because I turned it on this morning only to find my icons stacked on the left side of my screen in no order whatsoever.... grrrrr

Thank you, MAKAI, very much for your research.

And, FFLOWERGIRL, thank you too for trying. Your colorful responses brighten me up for sure!!

Thanks ya'll!!!!!!!!!! :tazz:
