Hello,
I have just hooked up an HP deskjet 960c to my computer. When I try to install the printer using the wizard, the computer is unable to find the printer. If I install it manually everything seems to work fine. But when I send a print command, the printer has absolutely no response. If I view the printer status box while the print job is being executed, what I see is that the status first says "printing." Then, after about 5 seconds (or less), the status changes to "deleted - printed - printed"

I have tried reloading the driver, tried a new driver from the HP site, I have tried printing from DOS. And I just removed the printer from a Linux machine where it worked fine, so I'm certain that the printer and cable both work.

Please help if you can.

thanks

Falcondog,
When you install the 960c, are you using the Add Printer Wizard or are you using HP's wizard? When using HP's wizard, the printer should not be connected to the PC until it is asked for.
Also, you have confirmed that the connector cable and printer are fine, but how about on the PC? If it is USB, could you check it with another USB device?

Is this an old printer on a new computer? Or did you just update computer from WIN-98? You need to update printer driver for WIN-2K. Below is HP web sites.

If you are using USB Port - recheck USB Cable at printer – this cable is a MINI-B USB Plug. It is long & narrow and is often not pushed in far enough to make proper connection.
