I am very frustrated with this problem and would appreciate any help I can get. I am currently running Microsoft Antispyware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware Doctor and none of them seem to be able to get rid of it. I spend half of my browsing time closing windows. Below are the log files you requested.

Hi aplus and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
  • After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. ;)
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Thanks,

:tazz:

Everything is looking pretty good. Hows things running?

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy

open Hijack this and do a scan. Check off the following items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINNT\about.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINNT\about.htm
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O16 - DPF: {886DDE35-E955-11D0-A707-000000521958} - http://69.56.176.78/webplugin.cab
O16 - DPF: {DB893839-10F0-4AF9-92FA-B23528F530AF} - http://deposito.host...aler/604147.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

click FIX CHECKED then close HJT and reboot.

Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

Please post the Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

I had to do the active scan twice. The first time the log didn't save correctly. There were 10 virii found in the first scan that were terminated.

I am planning on buying activecsan as soon as it will fit in my budget. I wish I would have know about it before I spent 30 dollars on spyware doctor. Activescan seems to work much better.

Thanks again for you help

No need to buy anything. Soon as we are finsihed up cleaning you, I will give you a whole list of, tested and proven, free programs to use :)

Just a few random bad files and folders to clean up.

Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\cache32dsrf4535dfs
C:\Documents and Settings\tom\My Documents\Downloads\LM2fix
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\WINNT\ssk.exe
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".

Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.
C:\WINNT\System32\heoc.exe
C:\WINNT\dinst.exe

Run CleanUp! again :tazz:

Post back when you finish and tell me how your computer is running :)

Excal,

I have done everything you asked except I didn't know what you meant by "Run Cleanup! Again." I found "heoc.exe" in Program Files/rcoh/.

My system is running like new now. Thank you very much.javascript:emoticon(':)')

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if the main link does not work) and install it.

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

(sorry about that, i thought I already had you download this...lol)

Excal,

Clean Up has removed almost 700 megabytes of trash from my hard drive and everything is running fine. Thanks for all your help. I have been A+ certified since '96' and a 'CNA' since '97' and I have never before seen so much malware on the internet. I really appreciate people like you because if this stuff isn't stopped it could mean an end to the internet. Thanks again for you help

Your Welcome :tazz:

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :)

Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:
(do not have more than one firewall running on your system)

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided. Also read How I got Infected
