I do not know if this related to another problem I had (which appears to be fixed), but I cannot seem to get rid of some Trojans on our computer. Ewido keeps picking up Trojan.Dropper.vidro.u and Trojan.Qhost.qr. It claims to clean them, but they reappear with every scan. The other trojan is picked up by a Norton alert message (i.e., cannot delete, cannot access) but never appears on a Norton scan. It has no name (described just as "Trojan Horse") and says it is located at C:/WINDOWS/System32/hclean.exe, but of course I cannot find that file anywhere! Following is my latest EWIDO report, followed by a HiJack this log. Please help me - my computer has been having issues for almost a week, and I just cannot seem to shake the problems. I need a pro! Before starting any cleaning steps, please disable the Microsoft Anti-Spyware real-time protection:

• Right-click on the Microsoft Anti-Spyware tray icon by your clock (it's the one with the red and yellow bulls-eye).
• Click on "Security Agents Status".
• Click on "Disable real-time protection".

Next, open Microsoft Anti-Spyware.

• Click on the Options menu, then Settings.
• Select "Real Time Protection" from the left column.
• Uncheck "Enable (MSAS) Security Agents" and "Enable real-time spyware threat protection".
• Click the Save button.

Finally, Right-click on the MSAS tray icon, select "Shutdown Microsoft Antispyware", and click "Yes" in the dialog that comes up.

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder & not on the desktop).
Please create a directory on your c: drive called c:\hijackthis (and download) and unzip hijackthis into that directory. Run the program from that directory from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Start CWShredder

• Click "Fix" to remove the CWS infection.

Start CCleaner and click the button "Run Cleaner".
Open the folder you've extracted remv3.zip to and doubleclick remv3.bat.

Click "Start", "Control Panel", "Network connections". Rightclick on your default connection and click "Properties".
Doubleclick "Internet Protocol". Check "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

When the program is finished, restart your computer in Normal Mode and post c:\log.txt and a fresh log from HijackThis.

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Start CWShredder

• Click "Fix" to remove the CWS infection.

Start CCleaner and click the button "Run Cleaner".
Open the folder you've extracted remv3.zip to and doubleclick remv3.bat.

Click "Start", "Control Panel", "Network connections". Rightclick on your default connection and click "Properties".
Doubleclick "Internet Protocol". Check "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

When the program is finished, restart your computer in Normal Mode and post c:\log.txt and a fresh log from HijackThis.

Thank you so much for your help. Hopefully I am on my way to a problem-free computer! I tried to do all you said, but had a couple of minor problems, most likely due to my very novice skills. First, CWShredder found nothing to fix (which I guess is good, right?) Second, I had trouble running the remv3 program. I created a new c: folder for it, and then saved the download to it. But when I went to run it, there was no remv3.bat on which to doubleclick. Third, I went Start/Control Panel/Network Connections, but when I opened the Network connections folder, there was nothing in there at all - so I could not right-click on default connection/properties/internet protocol/Obtain DNS server address automatically. Lastly, regarding the posting of logs, I was a little unclear if you wanted the HiJack This log from when I ran it in Safe Mode, or a fresh one after I restarted normally - so I give you both! Regarding c:/log.txt, I am unsure of what that is. I am sorry for the problems, and I truly appreciate all of your help.

I created a new c: folder for it, and then saved the download to it. But when I went to run it, there was no remv3.bat on which to doubleclick.

Download remv3.zip and unzip it to its own folder (otherwise it willnot work)

Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer into safe mode (Instructions)

Start CCleaner and click the button "Run Cleaner".
Open the folder you've extracted remv3.zip to and doubleclick remv3.bat.

Then reboot into normal mode

Click "Start", "Control Panel", "Network connections". Rightclick on your default connection and click "Properties".
Doubleclick "Internet Protocol". Check "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

Then reboot again and post c:\log.txt and a fresh log from HijackThis (normal mode)

Thank you again for the help. I am afraid my incompetence is what's preventing the riddance of these problems! First, the only thing that appeared when I clicked on Network Connection was LAN/High Speed Internet. I right clicked on it, cliked properties, doubleclicked Internet protocol, but "Obtain DNS ..." was already checked. Second, I was able to unzip the remv3 files and was able to locate and double click on remv3.bat. A black window appeared, but I could not copy and paste the contents therein. I saw at the top the following: "C:/remv3zip/remv3>echo The batch is run from - - C:\remv3zip/remv3 1>c:log.txt" So I see the "log.txt" that you want me to paste, but I just do not know how to do it.

Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this. Allow the script.

Once again, I appreciate your prompt reply. This is starting to really frustrate me! As soon as I booted up tonight, I got a Norton alert ("C:\WINDOWS\System32\hclean.exe" identified as "Trojan Horse") that Norton could neither access nor delete.

Regarding Killbox, I did as you said and ran it in Safe Mode. But after I completed the step "Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot Prompt," a box appeared that said "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process." The box gave me only an "OK" option, and no automatic reboot occurred. After I manually rebooted and during my Panda Scan, a Norton alert appeared that said Norton could not delete, access, etc "C:\WINDOWS\System32\hclean.exe"

Download CCleaner and install it. (Please do not run the CCleaner utility yet.)

Make sure all hidden files and folders are visible (Instructions )
Reboot your computer into safe mode (Instructions)

Find and delete these files (if they are still there):

Start CCleaner, click Run CCleaner (bottom right)

Reboot your computer back into normal mode.

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

OK, I had almost zero problems doing everything you said. While RKFiles was running, on two separate occasions my good old Norton alert regarding C:\WINDOWS/System32\hclean.exe came up, and while L2mfix was running, on two occasions a message came up saying "System File not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windwos applications. Choose "Close" to terminate application. I chose "Ignore." Thanks again for your help.

Well, I just do not know what to do anymore. The three trojans about which I originally intended my post are still on the computer. Ewido is picking up Trojan.Dropper.vidro.u, Trojan.Qhost.qr, and even a new Trojan. The Norton message continues to come up regarding C:\WINDOWS\System32\hclean.exe. Even the Panda scan is turning up more things than it did when I ran it and posted it earlier in this thread. Through your help I have been able to eradicate much of the spyware that I did not know was on here, but it does not seem as though all these downloads and scans I have done are getting rid of the things I was most worried about - the Trojans. I am considering just popping in the Restore CD I was given with the computer - I just do not what else to do.

Make sure all hidden files and folders are visible (Instructions )
Reboot your computer into safe mode (Instructions)

Find and delete these files (if they are still there):
C:\temp\salm_kyf.dat
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\loadctr32.exe


Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.


Reboot your computer back into normal mode.


Please run Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta and then click on Tools, then Spyware Scan, then Manage Spyware Quarantine.
Put a checkmark next to all items and then select the Permanently remove all checked threats.


Disable and Enable System Restore:

You can find instructions on how to enable and enable system restore here:

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above.


Then reboot your computer again!


Run Panda's online virus scan and perform a full system scan: Panda ActiveScan

Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log in your next reply.

I have not done your requested instructions yet b/c, amazingly, I think the problem may now be resolved. As I've said, I would get the Norton alert for hclean.exe and it would say cannot be accessed or deleted. A while back, I clicked on a link within the alert (to a Symantec page) and it said that the program (hclean) may be used to enable other Trojans to operate, not that it was necessarily a Trojan itself.

I ran Norton last night after I posted my last message and it actually picked up hclean and quarantined it. I then ran Ewido in safe mode and it picked up NOTHING (every time before it picked up Trojan.Dropper.vidro.u and Trojan.Qhost.qr). So I am thinking maybe, just maybe, hclean was the file that was enabling the other two to run - b/c before I could not access or delete hclean, the other two would always be able to operate, even after I deleted them via Ewido (b/c could never delete hclean, program which allowed other two to run).

In light of above, do you still think I need to take the steps you recommended. I am planning on Running Norton and Ewido again to make sure they are all gone - if they are, need I take the above steps. I have no clue why Norton quarantined it during a virus scan, but could not seem to access/delete when the alert popped up. I do realize now, however, that since this problem started, I have not run an actual Norton scan.

Does this sound too good to be true? Are there ways to make sure all are gone?? Thanks for your help.
