I just had an idea.... I noticed that some is from the system restore, so do this:

Right click on my computer>Properties.

System Properties should come up, go to the system restor tab and disable system restore.

Click ok.

Then go to:

Start> All programs/programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup

Once you have clicked on that, let it do its funky thing, then go to:

More Options

Where is says System Restore, click on clean up then a nother little pop up comes up, click YES

THis has cleaned out your system restore things

In reply to Tony as i said earlier bizarrely the "not a valid win32" message comes up when I try to get to that menu. When I right clock my computer and click properties I get a message saying that "c:\windows\system32\runddl32.exe is not a valid win32 application"!

now we're cooking

From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

that's the proper usage

(plus...children..be nice or i'll turn this car around and we won't ever go to disney world again)

The yep was in response to dsnette's question as to whether the cd was in the drive and unfortunately sfc still doens't work. "sfc /scannow" doesn't work either.
