I looked at the webpage that gave the instructions of what to do before posting a 'hijack this' log. Ran adaware, cwshredder, spybot, ewido, etc. Every time I boot, I still have spyware. Here's my hijack this log:

Ok good this is what we have to do.

Download LQFix (by Miekiemoes) from here :
http://users.pandora...atchy/LQfix.zip
Unzip it to the Desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Next, reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, run (double-click) LQfix.bat. You will see a DOS window appear and disappear - that's normal. Reboot the computer normally, then scan with HijackThis! again and post the new logfile here.

Nope i think it's safe to say that you have a clean system, congrats!!!

Since your issues have been addressed and you are ready to travel the net again, I will just give you a few ideas on how to stay safe out there. Best of all these programs are all readily available on the net for free

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Antiviruses play an important role in keeping your computer safe and worry free while using the net. *NOTE* Only one antivirus must be allowed to run on your computer, as having two or more running can and will cause conflicts.

You must stay on top of your updates at all times, for the above mentioned applications.

It is vitally important to stay on top of your critical updates provided by microsoft.

To add to the performance of your computer, i suggest a weekly maintenance program. Run this tool. Ccleaner

Lastly a second opinion on the Antivirus that you have chosen. I suggest running these online virus scans periodically, just to make sure that the av is doing a proper job, of keeping you safe :

For my firewall and AV protection, I'm using Zonealarm security suite. I see you reccomended its firewall. The suite comes with AV and firewall. What's your take on that?

As for internet explorer vs firefox. What do I do with IE after I install firefox? Should I scrap it?

Ok good questions, let's see if i can fully answer them for you.


About IE versus firefox.

Great choice going to firefox, you have made an excellent decision and should be happy with all the extras it provides. As far as scraping IE no you can't do that. The one thing that IE offers that firefox does not is critical updates. You must keep IE for just that reason, also there are not a lot of on-line scanners that firefox works with, that is why i have provided a link in my closing speech.

Zone alarm is a good product in my opinion in fact i use it on my own system along with a hardware firewall.

The only one drawback that i see using a bundled application is if something does happen to cause a problem in that app the entire system could be compromised. That is why i run zone alarm as my firewall and avg as my anitvirus.

You should never run more than one av or more than one firewall because they can and will cause conflicts.
