Hi, please help, I'm not very good at certain computer fixing things so please go easy on me when you try to help me fix.

I have that Winfixer adware program plus I have others with names like adopt.hotbar and searc-h and I have that E2G adware that I can't get rid off, others too. I just got over that aurora virus recently too :tazz:.

Heres my hijackthis file:

Hi Xantos89 and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

You may have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
  • One
    Two
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
Then post a HijackThis log (not attach) together with the log of the L2Mfix

After getting into the program and pressing 1 and enter, an alert came onto the screen that was titled 16bit MS-DOS Subsystem and said, "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I clicked close but got a log anyway, please tell me whether to run the program again and click ignore or not. Thank you.

Here's the log I got:

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
  • After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Hi Xantos89,

I noticed that your HiJackthis.exe is located on your desktop, make sure to save HijackThis in its own folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This is very important, so HiJackThis can save backups!

Do you use WINAMP6?
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:
    • C:\WINDOWS\VXNlcgAA\command.exe
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download and install CleanUp! Here
*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

We will use this program later.

THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank

Thank you again,

1. I moved HiJackthis to its own folder by sending it to a zipped file then extracting it to my new folder.

2. I ran Jotti's scan, but I forgot to save the results to a file, what I did though was after all of the steps I ran the scan again and I beleive I got the same results.

Jotti's Malaware scan:

Service load: 0% 100%

File: command.exe
Status: MIGHT BE INFECTED/MALWARE (Sandbox emulation took a long time and/or runtime packers were found, this is suspicious. Normally programs aren't packed and don't force the sandbox into lengthy emulation. Do realize no scanner issued any warning, the file can very well be harmless. Caution is advised, however.) (Note: this file has been scanned before. Therefore, this file's scan results will not be stored in the database)

3. I made sure to see hidden files, I followed all the steps but I did not know what Windows Explorer was, nor did I find a way to get to it. What I did was I clicked start and went to Run... and then I typed in the file name you gave. When I was in the file I went up a page and deleted the whole file. I found etb, eeet, but I did not find exp. At step 9 I used Run... to find all of the files but I did not find any of them.

4. I ran Cleanup, as I had already had the program, then I rebooted the computer, and everything else has run smoothly.

Things certainly look better ;) Hows everything running, anymore problems?

Do you use WINAMP6?

Do delete a file using windows explorer, you do the following:

got to start>mycomputer> then clikc on C: Drive> then go to the folder you want.

Just FYI :)

Do me a favor, i think that might be a bad program.

Go to start>search and locate this file WINAMP6.EXE and tell me the whole path (ie c:\windows\system32\winamp6.exe)
Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Thanks,

Sorry for the incredibly late reply. :tazz: I sorta went away to Canada for 5 days. :) Anyway I looked for that file when I went to search ad there's something strange. I used to get that search thing with the dog and the different characters and stuff, but I got this sorta internet search thing. I dunno if you know what's up with this but I don't really know what's going on.

Anyway, I couldn't find that file but I figure I probably still have it. If you wan another Hijackthis log just ask I'll make it.

Oh yeah, and please :).

Please download FileFind from Atribune.
Unzip the file and save it to your desktop.

To run FileFind, please do the following:
  • Click on FileFind.exe
  • In the box labeled "Enter the directory to search"
    • Enter Drive eg.. C:\
  • In the box labeled "Enter the file to search"
    • Enter the file or use *.(file extention) to search for the file(s)
    • WINAMP6.EXE
  • Now click on the "Find" button
  • Once the utility has found the files click on "Export"
  • This will save a text file to your C:\ drive as "Export.txt"
  • Double click on Export.txt, copy and paste this information in your next post

I tried multiple times and it always came up with no files found. I checked in the export notepad and found nothing. Am I doing something wrong?
