Hey,
I'm not very profeccient with computing, but i do know enough to know my cpu has been comprimised. My desktop has been hijacked, it reads: "Warning!, your computer might be infected with spyware or adware!!!" It then goes on to say download the latest spyware removal software, which i dont think is a good idea.

It seems the links seem to point me to PCGuard. i dont know what to do.

I have no idea what to do, i am in deparate need of help.

Thank you so much for your time.

Ok i have done done those things requested on that link except fot AVG. Also i'd like to add when i run Trend HouseCall it found 3 files it could not delete, what should i do?

Here are a few problems on my computer: I occsionally get System Warnings telling me my computer has spyware. There is a flashing icon on my task bar telling me i have spyware. Internet Expoler has been taken by bestwebslinks.com. Also i get the occsional popup.

Regarding my computer, i have one user who does not have control over his desktop(display properties). Originally it had a message with a warning, after running through the steps requested by the link, it is now just plain blue. Also on which user should i run through these programs , does it matter?

Would you like to see the ewido report?

Hi Bobo86

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop. Don't run it yet!

Please download and install AD-Aware se.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first. Don't run yet.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet,

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:

Before i carry these steps out, i wanted to ask some questions.
I've previously run Ad-aware, Ewido, CWSshredder, cleanUP, am i to do it again.

Also i see you want me to delete something by the name of UQconnect, which i beleive is legitimate, considering it is related to my university.

Thank you, again for your time, KC. :tazz:

Hi Bobo86

You do no need to download the programs again, just rerun them.

Before i carry these steps out, i wanted to ask some questions.
I've previously run Ad-aware, Ewido, CWSshredder, cleanUP, am i to do it again.
Yes you need to run them again.

Also i see you want me to delete something by the name of UQconnect, which i beleive is legitimate, considering it is related to my university.
If you are sure this is save then do not delete it.

OK, things look like they're on the mend. I want to mention several things i could not do: First i couldn't run the 'RunThis.bat' from smitRem, is doen't run on my system or something. Then of those files you requested me to delete from System32, i could not find intmon.exe and hpFB64.tmp. Lastly regarding Spybot, it seems there are some file under Smitfraud that cannot be deleted. Spybot says it will delete after a restart but when i restard it says the same thing after going though another search of some sort.

As requested here is the Panda Virus Scan Report, enjoy!

Hi Bobo86

Your system is CLEAN

Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here

It Prevent's the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox.
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
You can download Sun's newer JVM for Windows at http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html.
http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp Windows (Offline Installation)

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats.

Have a nice Day.

I just wanted to know why i had to turn off system restore inorder to defrag. Also with spybot, it won't delete some of these files it found, it says it will delete them after a restart, but it doesn't, it just repeats its message and tells me to restart, what do i do?

I've also noticed something odd, on programs like notepad and windows media player, the top taks bar is normally grey, but now the words are still black but have a white background to them. (i've attached an image for you to see what i'm talking about.

Thank you, so much Kc :tazz: Thatman is the-man!
I don't think i can thank you enough. This site is just golden, its such a relief to know there are people out there who would take the time to help others in need, especially over the internet! Honestly, it kind of restores my faith in humanity :) , a bit dramatic but its the truth. Here's to you and the others working here at the frontlines of spyware, keep up the good work! ;)

Hi Bobo86

As you know system restore make's a backup of the system file's that allow you to restore you your system before you had problem's.
But the problem is it also restore the malware back to. by turning of system restore, this clean out the malware.
And using defrag after you have turned of system restore most of the data is over writen.
We now have a clean system and clean restore point.

I've also noticed something odd, on programs like notepad and windows media player, the top task bar is normally grey, but now the words are still black but have a white background to them. (i've attached an image for you to see what i'm talking about.
Malware may have caused the problem.

Reinstall windows media player and see if that fix's the problem.
For notepad you will find a copy in Here C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\notepad--> copy and paste this into your C:\WINDOWS\system32\

See if that works
