Have new external Maxtor OneTouch II (USB) 200gb to put on CompaqS4300NX 2.6gh, 120gb. Want to use for system back-up as well other photo, music, program storage. Would like to know basics & recommended software to partition, as well as any precautions to adding this hardware. Is PartitionMagician recommended for drive manmagement? Should I, or can I, use FDISK? Would need recommended instructions on use of Fdisk too. Willing to learn.
Thanks.

You should first start by reading all the manufactures setup information. Maxtor drives (the only ones I use) are normally supplied with all the tools you need to set them up. Their Disk Manager software blows fdisk away! And, partitioning/formatting is a breeze at about 100 times faster than any dos based software !

My advice... read the manual! :tazz:
