After cancelling a download of the latest msn messenger service, after rebooting my computer now takes exactly 15 minutes to go through the boot process.

The boot process goes through the RAM check but then I have one of those annoying splash screens from the supplier which hangs for 15 minutes (exactly each time) and then loads normally from then on.

I cannot get into the safe mode selection screen at all after numerous attempts of trying and I have checked the boot.ini file and that is set as it should be. I cant for the life of me fathom out what could be the error.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Ok... I have to ask the obvious... how are you attempting to get into safe mode. Are you repeatedly hitting the F8 key during boot up? If this is not the procedure you are using, please try it. If you can get to safe mode, choose the option to create a bootlog and post the bootlog here so we can try to find the cause.
