I can't get Win Fixer to stop popping up and installing itself. ;)

I have viewed other posts and resolutions but am leery to follow those exact steps as my situation may be different.

If anyone is willing to walk me through this fix, I would really appreciate the :tazz: .

Thanks so much!!!

Hi Viky and welcome to GTG.

Yes, we need that log ;) and thanks for waiting for a reply - those fixes are really meant for the individual users, but I know a lot of users just jump ahead and follow them anyway. Then some come back saying they followed so and so's fix and still didn't work :tazz:

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ to update manually.

Download Nailfix Utility at http://www.noidea.us...050711214630636 Save it to your desktop. Do NOT run it yet.

Download dsrfix.zip http://www.atribune....oads/dsrfix.zip and save it to your desktop. Unzip the dsrfix.zip contents to your desktop. This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix. Do NOT open that folder yet.

Download ETRemover and unzip it. Don't run it yet.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, double click on nailfix.exe.
Click 'Next' in the setup, then make sure 'Run Nailfix' is checked and click 'Finish'.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Now open Ewido and do a scan on your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
o If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
o Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'
o If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now as the action.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://searchbar.linksummary.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchbar.linksummary.com
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ThemeManager - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ifetcplc.dll
O23 - Service: Windows VisFx Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\wakosvc.exe (file missing)

Now open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.
* Double click on dsrfix.bat
* A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Locate and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhparu.exe
AUNPS2.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\ttupt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\etb\
nwphela2.exe
C:\Program Files\CMAPP\
C:\PROGRA~1\ezula\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ifetcplc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\wakosvc.exe

Run ETRemover.exe now.

Restart your computer.

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient... Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the FindIt's log here along with the logs for HijackThis and Ewido.

Greynight17... Thanks SO much for offering your help! Here is a rundown of some of the problems I had after following the steps you instructed:

All went well up until I tried locating and deleting some of files you suggested. Here's what happened:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhparu.exe - deleted
AUNPS2.DLL - could not locate
C:\WINDOWS\ttupt.exe - could not locate
C:\WINDOWS\etb\ - delted
nwphela2.exe - could not locate
C:\Program Files\CMAPP\ - deleted
C:\PROGRA~1\ezula\ - could not locate
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ifetcplc.dll - would not allow me to delete the file
C:\WINDOWS\wakosvc.exe - could not locate

Next, I tried to run ETRemover.exe but I received the following error: "Runtime Error '5', Invalid procedure all or argument"

Here are the log files you requested:

Find It's Log:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
The current date is: Sun 08/14/2005
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FILES FOUND BY THIS METHOD ARE NOT BAD FILES, THERE MIGHT BE LEGIT FILES LISTED AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHILE FIXING. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT IT IS LEAVE THEM ALONE.

No problem Viky, glad we could help out :tazz:

Delete these files if found (do them in safe mode if they give you problems):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\kill all spyware.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ringtone2.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sony psp1.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\virushunter4.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xboxab.ico
C:\WINDOWS\System32\4FSQU73P.INI
C:\WINDOWS\SS3UNSTL.EXE

Then restart and do the following two steps (no need to wait for me):

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Make sure you post the above log in the forum before proceeding any further. Once you posted it, you don't have to wait for me. Just continue on with the below and post those two logs as well:

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2MFix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

OK, we are close to wrapping this up. There's just one more infection here according to your log. So we need these other two tools to help us remove it:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

* Download WinPFind http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php
o Double click on WinPFind and unzip it to your Desktop.
o Don 't do anything with it yet!
* Download Track qoo http://www.geekstogo...ds/Trackqoo.zip
o Save it to the Desktop.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Double click WinPFind.exe

* Click 'Start Scan'
* It will scan the entire system, so please be patient!
* Once the scan is complete:
1. Go to the WinPFind folder
2. Locate WinPFind.txt
3. Copy those results in the next post!

Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double click on 'Track qoo.vbs'

Note - If you have an anti-virus program that has script blocking features, you will get a pop up window asking you what to do. Allow this entire script to run. It's harmless.

Wait a few seconds and Notepad will pop up. Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

Still can't say "thanks" enough Greynight... You're pretty smart!

Here are the logs you requested:

WinPFind:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

:tazz: Thanks. The really smart ones are those who created these tools to help us diagnose and remove these infections :)

OK, for the registry entry (see below), the KavSvc entry might hide itself sometimes. So if you can't find it, just skip it and continue on.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\ and delete mmxyfkkm
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete KavSvc

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files (just highlight all those lines with your mouse and right click->Copy) and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\log.txt
C:\WINDOWS\mmznj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\datadx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nnikrcc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\bootstat.dat
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\RUTASK.job
C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\SA.DAT
C:\Documents and Settings\Donnie\Application Data\Sskcwrd.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Donnie\Application Data\Sskknwrd.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Donnie\Application Data\Sskuknwrd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iisku.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhparu.exe

Check and fix this in HijackThis if it's still there:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhparu.exe reg_run

Restart and post a new HijackThis log.

:tazz: By the way, I failed to mention to you earlier that the WinFixer pop ups stopped! But, I guess you probably figured that out from the logs, huh? THANKS!! :)

I was not able to find the KavSvc file as you predicted. However, I did choose the "Fix it" option in HijackThis for that file and it appears to be gone.

Here is the most recent HijackThis Log:

Yes, the signs of Winfixer are gone. I just told you earlier that I saw another infection...just so you know we are not all clear yet :)

Good job Viky :tazz:

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

Everything seems to be working okay now. You can't imagine how thankful I am for your help!

In your reply you stated that we weren't all clear yet because you noticed another infection, and then right after you said that my log is clean. Does that mean that we cleared the infection and my pc is healthy?

Also, I have followed your advice and additionally protected my computer even more than before. I have spread the word to many of how great this website is and how excellent your help has been. It's nice deeds like these that remind us that we live in a great world with helping and compassionate people.

THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH!!! :tazz:
