Hi,
Im trying to help a friend of mine fix his computer. He doesn't know much about them , so he asked me for help. Afetr following your intructions "before posting..." The computer seems to just get worse. I was unsuccessfull in obtaining a copy of ewido. The PC will not download it or run anything! Just sits at a picture of the desktop. I was able to get hijack running though. I ran ad aware and spybot many times, I also ran trend housecall to cleanup some of the trojans, but it couldnt clean then and neither could panda. I finally got norton working and eliminated most of them, however there is one that norton cannot clean. So I guess I have a combination of spyware and viruses. If you guys could help me out, that would be great. Oh and I couldnt get windows update running either.... it has sp1 tho.

Here is the latest hijack log. Thanks!
Ryan

OK,good deal!!!

How much did Kaspersky find and were you able to run the Reg Cleaner in Safe Mode as I described?

We are going to have to take this a few infections at a time!

I will save the fun one for last!

Go to Add\Remove Programs and Remove

SurfSideKick 3
WareOut

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Download and Install
CleanUp!
Dont use it yet!

CleanUp Removes all Temporary files,so if there is anything in a Temp folder that needs to be kept, please move it somewhere else!

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Download Pocket KillBox from here:
http://www.bleepingc...les/killbox.php
There is a Direct Download and a description of what the Program does inside this link.

Right-Click Here and Click "Save As" to download DelDomains.inf to your desktop.

Right Click DelDomains.inf on your desktop and select "Install"

It will perform a silent process>Give it a minute to run!

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)

From the list below-> Copy&Paste each entry into Pocket Killbox and use the Instructions that follow!

C:\WINDOWS\wotmp.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\wotmp11.tmp
c:\ckbrow~1\winocdfc1.dll
c:\ckbrow~1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\d4yif.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\appwiz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wosys.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wosysdll.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tcpG4T.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\svchost.exe
C:\windows\system32\mdms.exe
C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3
C:\Program Files\WareOut

As you paste each into Killbox, place a tick by any of these selections available!

"Standard File Kill"
"End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"
"Deltree(Include Subdirectories)"

Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete!

Please let me know if any of these would not delete!

Open the Search Assistant(Click Start>>Click Search)
Select All Files and Folders,
Select Advanced Options,
Make sure there is a check by every box under Advanced Options!

Now under All Files and Folders, enter this into the text box:

ssweeper.exe
vxdman.exe
sbin.exe
MON76234.exe
WhatsNewBot.exe

Delete any exact matches you find!

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!

Now,Open and Run CleanUp!-> When it prompts you to Log Off-> Click NO!

Next,Open and Run Ewido-> Clean everything it finds and be sure to click the tab to Save a Report!

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

Once you see "Scan Complete"-> a log(WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Now lets check some settings on your system.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
  • Then right click on your Default Connection
    • Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
  • Left click on Properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item.
  • Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically.
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work!

Ok. All went pretty well this time through cept for a few things. Here are the logs for every program except panda. I could not get it to run. Also I couldn't get the search dialog to run. Not even this forum would pop up! Anything that uses java will not work..... As far as the kill box program, everything was successfully deleted except this stuff:

Did Not Exist
C:\WINDOWS\wotmp.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\wotmp11.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wosys.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wosysdll.dll
C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3
C:\Program Files\WareOut

Couldnt Delete
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tcpG4T.dll

OK,First I need you to get a file scanned

Make sure Windows is Showing Hidden Files
http://www.bleepingc...ut62.html#winxp

C:\WINDOWS\system32\AuxDrv32ds_d.ods

Have that file scanned at these 2 sites
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
and
http://www.virustota...h/index_en.html

If either scan flags it as nasty, please Include it in the list of files to be deleted!

You may also want to look at the properties of the file and see if you can associate it with something installed on the PC!

While you are looking,Locate this file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\w?nword.exe

Date Created 8/8/2005 6:28:04 AM

Size 401,408 bytes or Size 392 Kb

The ? can be anything but I have given you the creation date and size,so you should be able to locate it fairly easy!

Once located, wait for Safe Mode to Delete it!

Download remv3.zip and unzip it to its own folder and be sure to extract all files (otherwise it willnot work)

Attached is a Zip Folder that contains a Registry File, please download it to the Desktop and Unzip it but dont run it until I ask!

Restart into Safe Mode!

Once More-> Right Click DelDomains.inf on your desktop and select "Install"

Click Start-> Run-> Copy&Paste the Bold Print below into the Open Box and Click OK!

sc stop msudp4

and then

sc delete msudp4

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!

Open the folder you've extracted remv3.zip to and doubleclick remv3.bat-> It will delete the files and remove the infection and then make a log of the files it finds.

The scan will take a few minutes and when complete, the log file will be located at C:\log.txt!

Now locate the Registry File I had you download and Double Click Clr.reg-> Allow it to merge into the Registry!

Now locate and delete

C:\WINDOWS\system32\w?nword.exe

Open Pocket KillBox!

Highlight the list below and press Ctrl+C to Copy!

In Killbox-> Click File-> Click Copy to Pasteboard!

Place a tick next to "Delete on Rebott"-> Click the Red Circle to Delete!

Answer "Yes" to both prompts that follow and Reboot back into Normal Mode!

Have the PC Scanned here
http://support.f-sec.../home/ols.shtml

Save the Report from that Scan!

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the report from F-Secure!
