Hello GTG,
I can't get rid of this app called Winfixer. It keeps on popping up on every reboot and installs itself. I also have excessive pop ups (Aurora) and my IE pop up blocker is being turned off. To get rid of Winfixer I have tried Cleanup, AD-aware, CWShredder and Spybot. None of them removed this. Please help. Here is my Hijacj this log.

Hi jamhelp and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

a. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
b. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
c. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

That was perfect.

Your system has a very stubborn infection called a Peper infection. To get rid of it, please do the following:

1. Download this removal tool :
http://downloads.sub...rg/PeperFix.exe

- Start the tool and click Find and Fix.
- Reboot to finish removing what it found.
- Run the tool a second time to make certain it has completed removed Peper.

2. Reboot your computer again and post a new HijackThis log.

Trevuren

This fix will work if you haven't turned off or rebooted your machine since you posted your log. If you have performed one of the preceding actions, you will have to substitute the files that I provide for use in the APT part of the fix with ones that you find by running a fresh HJT log and looking for an 04 entry with a file which ends with an isolated "r" and is also found among the processes in the top part f your log with out this solitary r.

If your are unable to find the correct files by searching as described in the previous chapter, just send me a fresh HJT log and do not turn off your machine or reboot it until you receive your fix from me.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Download ewido security suite (it is a free version of the program).
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
  • Exit ewido.
  • DO NOT RUN IT YET.
NOTE:If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

2. Download CleanUp
  • Install the program
  • DO NOT RUN IT YET
3. Download this file: Nailfix Utility
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • DO NOT RUN IT YET
4. Download dsrfix.zip
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip dsrfix.zip and extract it to your desktop.
  • This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix.
  • DO NOT USE IT YET.
5. Download APT
  • Unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.
  • Open the folder you just created and click on apt.exe
  • Search in the window for << c:\windows\system32\cvxpneb.exe >>.
  • Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for <<cvxpneb.exe >>.
NOTE:Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.
  • In APT again, Select << c:\windows\system32\cvxpneb.exe r>> and Click Kill3
  • Then immediately delete << cvxpneb.exe >> from your system32 folder.
  • Close APT.
6. REBOOT into SafeMode. With Windows XP, you can follow these steps from Microsoft

OR
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, start tapping press F8 key.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
7. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.
  • Click "Next" in the setup
  • Make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked
  • Click "Finish"
  • Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.
8. Open ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
9. Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

13. Now run the CleanUp program:

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
  • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No

Hello,

I had powered down my computer before the last set of instructions and I also had to reboot while installing the apps that you requested because of hang ups so I'm not quite sure of the HJT files to check. When using APT I could not find the file c:\windows\system32\cvxpneb.exe and could not find file cvxpneb.exe in the Windows\system32 folder. Also when using nailfix.exe a window did open and close quickly but the icons did not disappear and then reappear. Here's the HJT log and Ewido log. Please advise.

PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING: TAKE YOUR TIME, BE THOROUGH.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1.
  • Open the apt.exe folder
  • Search in the window for << c:\windows\system32\zsuaur.exe>>.
  • Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for <<zsuaur.exe >>.
NOTE:Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.
  • In APT again, Select << c:\windows\system32\zsuaur.exe>> and Click Kill3
  • Then immediately delete <<zsuaur.exe >> from your system32 folder.
  • Close APT.

3. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.
  • Click "Next" in the setup
  • Make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked
  • Click "Finish"
  • Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.
5. Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\system32\Searchx.htm
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank

Close all open windows except for HJT, then click the Fix Checked button and EXIT HJT.

6. Open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.
  • Double-Click on dsrfix.bat
  • A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK
8. Now using Windows Explorer (Windows key + E) locate and DELETE the following files and folders (with all their content), if they are still present.

c:\windows\system32\zsuaur.exe
C:\Program Files\rdso<===Folder
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mlvzwzn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ossproxy.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ATHPRXY8.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfgbkend.exe

    • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
10. REBOOT your computer back into Normal Mode

1. Please update Ewido
  • If the program just exits before it finishes start it again and set it up to do a custom scan:
  • Start the program click the scan button over to the left click custom scan, click
    • add drive/directory/file
    • and add c:\documents and settings\
    • add c:\windows\
    • add c:\windows\system32\ also.
  • Then click start scan, have it remove everything found.
2. Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

3. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

4. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

5. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

6. Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

7. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Regards,

Trevuren
