fix mbr using xp

I have a xp bootable cd can I fix my w2k mbr using the xp bootable cd. I am using ntfs file system. I would think so, but would like some conformation before I do it.

The MBR lies only on the primary partition.
Are u sure that ur Win2k is on primary and WinXP on extended partition?
