I keep getting a blue screen:

It happens at random times. I have just installed XP after installing a new harddrive

I did that but it still does it

It also says:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then the USBPORT.SYS bit

This BSoD can be caused by Damaged RAM, Corrupt Driver.

First lets check whether its damaged RAM:
Download, burn and Run memtest86 (Bootable ISO version).

Update ur USB Controller drivers from u motherboards website.

how do I burn the memtest to a disc? (i'm a complete noob)

First unzip the downloaded file to extract the memtest.ISO file
For a tutorial on burning ISO images; Refer :

(Note: The tutorial has used another file as an example, U will have to do the same steps with the unzipped memtest.ISO file)

Ur RAM is damaged.
If u have multiple RAM sticks. Remove all the sticks
Insert one-by-one each stick seprately, run memtest86 on the single stick.
Find out which stick is damaged.
Get the stick replaced.

I only have a single 1gig stick

Ok, since its a physical problem on the RAM stick nothing can be done about it.
U will have get it replaced, if still under warranty; or buy a new one.
To be fully sure, U can put ur RAM stick on another PC and run memtest86 there.
