Ok I don't know what it is, and I've done everything I can think of to get rid of it. I've used adaware, norton and manually gone in and deleted stuff, edited the reg etc..I can't get rid of it. Heck, with my luck I'm sure there's stuff I don't knw about too. here's my hijackthis log, any help would be appreciated.

Where did you get your nick - Symmetry or cemetry ?? Things are not so bad that you need to send your PC there

On a more serious note, I dont know what winfixer does. It might be the greatest program but the reason why I dont like it is because it pop ups. Some of the best programs I know havent resorted to such behaviour.

Good news is that we can take care of it.


Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall some programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

CleanUp
Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

CWShredder

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

2. Remove Infections

Click on Start ---> Run. Type Services.msc and hit enter. Locate the item - ujvcfguxzrhx. Right click on it and then click on properties. In the Startup Type choose the option Disable. Close the window.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including temporary internet files

Run Ewido full scan. Let it fix any items it finds.

3. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -


Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\Program Files\WinFixer 2005

Files
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rxzsbxfb6.exe


Run Hijack This again. Click on config ---> Misc Tools ---> Delete an NT Service. Type in godumtxc6 and hit enter.

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch. It will open the folder Prefetch. Delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!


Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.


Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Ewido scan report.

Ok, started following your instructions and could not reboot into safe mode. The machine just kept going back to the F8 where you choose how you want to boot. I had three safe mode options and tried all of them. Going through the other steps as I await your responce. I did pm you (more to answer about the nick then anything). I do appreciate all the help

OK, like i said, I couldn't boot into safe mode, but I did everything else you advised. (you didn't list any rogue files, didn't know if it was an over sight but I doubt it). My hjt log and the ewido log is here also. I only ran ewido once because you didn't say run it again.

NO i don't. evrything seems to be running much better. just one question before i stop bugging you..I checked my control panel/add remove progs and winfixer and surfaccuracy are still there but so far as i can tell they are gone. Safe to run uninstal on them both or is there some other way to remove them from there?

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.


Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.


Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -

winfixer
Surf Accuracy

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders -

Folders
C:\Program Files\winfixer
C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy


Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log.

Also let me know whether you can see any wanted programs in Add / Remove programs

No error message. just keeps booting back to the screen that lets you choose from normal and safe mode. if I choose normal i'm good to go, it won't boot into any version of safe mode.

everything else seems to be doing well though.

Click on Start ----> Run.

Type - sfc /scannow - and hit enter. This will scan your system files and check if they have been "altered".

After the process is complete, try booting into Safe Mode

I lost count after about 50 files that seem to be missing from my DLL cache. I'll have to find another copy of windows (my disk is missing) and do that again when i can install stuff. egads

I think that's everything we can do until I find that and with my move to NC coming this week god only knows when i'll actually be able to do it. Thanks for all the help and stuff...

Are you getting an error that insert CD ??? Try pointing the process to the cab files in the folder C:\Windows\I386.

In case that doesnt work, then you will need to do a repair install of Windows !!!!!

Make sure that you read abour "Repair Install".

Two things -

1) You will need Windows CD for doing it

2) Once the Windows repair install has been completed, please visit Windows security and critical updates and get all the updates. The repair install deletes all patches.

The good thing about the Repair Install is that all your installed programs and data files will remain intact.

no option to redirect it. i'll find a new copy of the win xp pro disk after my move...and then i can follow the rest of your advise. unfortunately, there is no copy of the disk to be had here atm.

Hi Rob,

I am pretty confident that doing the sfc /scannow with the Widnows XP disk will solve your problem of not being able to boot in the Safe Mode.

In case it doesnt then Repair Install will definitely do the trick. Remember to get all the Windows updates / patches first thing after doing the repair install.
