...looking for some helpful ideas!! I built this for wife last year.

Suddenly (last Thursday) she can't see the bios screen or XP load during startup.

1) Flat Screen Monitor: test screen works and O/I light is green when the DVI cord is disconnected; goes black and O/I light goes yellow when connected. Removed FSM and attached CRT and test screen works; but. can't see bios or OS load.
2) Video Card: Swapped installed ATI 8500 with new ATI 7000; no change.
3) HDD: Can see green light blinking during startup
4) Mobo: Epox EP-45DA+
5) CPU: Pentium 4 2.6
6) Zone Alarm Suite for Firewall, antivirus, etc.
7) Reset bios

Nothing seems to correct the issue. I'd sure appreciate some suggestions. Thanks,

If you have an older monitor around try it. The machine may have reverted to VGA mode, which newer monitors don't handle.

Thanks Tyqer,

I did try an older monitor (CRT). The monitor's test diagram shows (suggesting it's working fine); but, I still can't see the bios or OS load.

That is the same with the ATI 8500 or 7000 vid card.
