AVG Free Edtion is a great everday-user anti-virus program. It provides reliable virus protection for free, and is very user-friendly. Well, except for updating the virus definitons as of late. Seems that the default and only update site is down. But I have an easy way to get the virus updates working again!

1. Navigate to your AVG folder, rename url.ini to url.ini_old

2. Copy the following into notepad and save as url.ini

[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=ftp.grisoft.com
3=www.grisoft.com

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/
3=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/
Actual URL=3

Now when you go to update AVG Free Edition, it will give you three choices to download updates from, with www.grisoft.com being the default <_<.

Nathan reports this updating problem has been corrected. <_<

edit: Oops, guess they're down again. To update your AVG please follow the instructions provided by Nathan in the first post.
