Click start, run, type msconfig press enter then start up, look for disk keeper entries and remove ticks, click apply, reboot then try Windows Defragmenter

Diskeeper also installs a service called the same and it's set to automatic....So if what Keith suggested is not all of your prob then do...Start/Run type "services.msc" (without quotes) and hit OK....Look for Diskeeper and stop the service if running then set to disabled.

Diskeeper doesn't delete the built-in defrag program, it just alters the link. You can either run c:\windows\system32\defrag.exe or change the link to point to that file.
