1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP and choose your Desktop as the destination.

2. Download and install Registrar Lite version 2.00
  • Double click the purple Registrar Lite icon on your desktop.
  • Copy the line below and paste it into the "Address" field (located at the top) of the program:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\Internet Settings

  • Click the "Go" button.
  • Right click on the "Internet Settings Folder" and select select Properties
  • Click the Permissions Button and a new window will open.
  • Click the Advanced button
  • Place a checkmark next to the following:
'Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects...'
  • Click OK, Ok again
  • Choose delete.
  • Exit Registrar Lite.
3. Restart your computer and post a new HiJackThis log.

You must read my replies more closely. What you are looking for is in my last reply. The name change was made to MCD

Hi Trevuern

I cant keep this pc running about every 4 to 5 mins of so I get a winlogon.exe error and it shuts down. I will be shocked if I get this off before it goes again. I still don't understand what you want me to delete. yes I did notice that there was one that was start up and that was cmd but I still never found internet startup folder it is not there.

You are no longer looking foe the "Internet Startup Folder". It had changed to the MCD Folder.

This baby changes all the time , every time your machine stops. I can't give you a regfix because that only applies if your machine if the key does not change and yours does every time your machine stops.

Look through the list at the folders present, write down their names. Check every time your machine shuts down and compare. After 4-5 reboots you will be able to see which ones are stable and which one is a variable. It is the variable folder that you will have to delete.

We are getting there. Let's see if we can go a bit farther.

Using Registrar Lite, you copy/paste the following key into the address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify.

Then press go. The program will bring you to the Notify key.(folder)

You will be looking at a two-panel window with a structure like Windows Explorer in the left window.

Under the Notifyfolder, you will find subfolders the names of which I want you to write down. Once you have all the names, Exit the program.

Reboot your machine and go back into Registrar Lite and do the same thing and , Yes, write down the names of all the subfolders.

Repeat this exercise 4-5 times, always writing down the names of the subfolders.

Bear with me, there is method to my madness, I think :tazz:

Now look at all the lists that you compiled. They should all have exactly the same names except for 1 name which will always be different.

When you are able to spot that one immediately in Registrar Lite, click on it and you will see that file that we are trying to get rid of in the right hand panel.

Have some fun, play around and when you are comfortable with the process, get back to me and we will continue.

Hi Trevuern

Sorry I have been off for a while. I was to sick to set up at the pc. Ok here is where I am with all of this I do think we managed to get rid of winfixer. My pc has not been shuting down by itself at least what little I have run it sometimes I still get a stupid pop but I am going to get some different software and hopefully get rid of them too. So thanks so much for your help. Hope I dont get winfixer again.

Thanks

You have the latest version of VX2.
  • Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

  • Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then OPEN the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #"1" for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter.
  • This will scan your computer and it may appear as if nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
