OS is Windows XP. I ran all the OS updates. I ran AdAware 6.0 and SpyBot as well as a full scan with AVG. The only thing that showed up was tracking cookies.

Downloaded CleanUp! and ran that... Rebooted afterwards. I still get this pop-up box with BackWeb Application ID 1940576.

Google brought me here, and I've seen this problem in the forums so I know I've come to the right place! I downloaded Hijack This so I'm ready to go.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and post your log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Whoa! Thanks for pointing that out! You can probably guess I'm not interested in letting it stay there!

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

ALCXMNTR.EXE
C:\Program Files\Perfect Keylogger Lite<<entire folder

Click on the button labeled CleanUp!.

When it finishes it will prompt you to restart Windows - there will be one or two files it cannot delete when Windows is running - however, they will be deleted next time Windows starts up. :tazz:

Reboot and post a new hijack this log and let me know how it's working. Sometimes when you have a keylogger all the information that is stored, mucks everything up.

I was unable to find 04 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

Thankfully, when starting up in safe mode the keylogger files were gone. Thank you!

I guess that I do not need to be concerned about...?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet /keeploaded /nodetect

Everything seems to be running fine now. Thanks again!

It's still there. See if you can find it this time. You had a lot to clean up, so it may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

Reboot into safe mode and find the exe and delete it.

ALCXMNTR.EXE

I cleaned a keylogger off a machine one time and it caused a lot of problems. I hope we got it all. You did run, CleanUp! Right?

I may try to google that particular keylogger and see if there is anything else going on. Just to be safe, let's do a silent runner's log. I don't trust those keyloggers.

* Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

OK. I finally found that string and got it 'fixed'. Yes, I sure did run CleanUP!

Looks good. If that program was installed by your supervisor on a company computer, you might check out your computer user's policy. They might require it being on there.

You are clean. :tazz:

Guess I'm good to go then, since I am the "IT Department" :tazz: as well as the Office Manager! Pointy headed boss can barely use e-mail.

Thanks so much for your help.

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :)
