Hi, I'm in need of some help as I am not terribly computer literate. I have encountered the PSGuard virus and am suffering the symptoms common for such a virus as listed on various sites and on this site itself. I have Windows ME and Norton Antivirus 2005. After the virus changed my background, homepage, and deleted my wininet.dll file I have also found that I cannot run internet explorer to get to the scanning websites where I can delete the virus. I also can't run Norton or any basic programs on the computer. They are found to be either missing or in need of the wininet file. I have tried to follow the steps to be rid of the psguard virus but all of them require internet access to download AdAware or SpyBot or other such systems. I cannot log on to internet explorer to download any of these and also have suspicions that downloaded files won't run just as my other previously downloaded files won't run (ie. SpyBot Search and Destroy). What happens when I open internet explorer in normal mode is it opens to a homepage of blank... as expected. Under safe mode, the homepage comes up as my original (google.com) but it says the page cannot be displayed along with all other websites I try to access. I need some help to get my computer to run well enough to clear up this virus. I would very much appreciate your suggestions.

Howdy and welcome to G2G:

Please go to the malware forum in my signature and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
