For a few years we have had a wired router in the basement of our house which splits our cable connection to the four bedrooms. That Linksys router worked fine on it's own, and still seems to do its job well. A few days ago I got a Netgear WGR614 v.6 Wireless G router and installed it on one bedroom, but I cannot connect to the network wirelessly. When I plug into the wireless router via ethernet, my laptop works fine. But if I try to connect wirelessly (and I get "excellent" signal strength), I get "limited or no connectivity" as the old router won't assign me an IP address. I see the wireless network, which uses WEP encryption, and I can connect to it. The new router is set not to act as a DHCP server since the old one is handling that job. I followed Netgear's directions about plugging the existing ethernet cord from the old router into one of the 4 ports that was not the "internet" port on the router. I have looked at all the basic settings, and nothing seems to work. What am I doing wrong? Please help me! Thanks in advance.
