Emachine CD/Dvd Burner issues

Ok, just got a computer and emachine and it worked fine for a while but at some point (its my bf's comp so i dont know when) it started playing movies and video very very jerky and i cant figure out how to fix it. I made sure he had the latest video drivers and updates for mediaplayer and all the other players he has but still no luck? do i need to update the codec or what? pls help .... the mouse also twitches as it lags?

here is his comp specs
emachine T6212 3200+160gb hard drive 512mb ddr sdram duel channel memory
AMD athlon 64 processor
GeForce 6600 pci express.

i also just went and dled the newest windows updates and tried turning down the accellerator in mediaplayer as per the mediaplayer website :tazz: but it didnt work
