Hello, my Windows XP puta has started freezing when I run Avast! antivirus, it gets about half way through then freezes, and it never freezes whilst scanning the same file.

Here is what I have tried:

Have downloaded and ran CleanUp! - didn't freeze but didn't fix problem
Have ran Adaware SE - didn't freeze but didn't fix problem
Have downloaded and ran Ewido - didn't freeze but didn't fix problem
Have ran Trend Housecall - froze during scan
Have downloaded and ran Trojan Hunter - froze during scan

Here are the results from my HijackThis scan:

Welcome to GeeksToGo

There are just a few items to fix in HijackThis.

Open HijackThis and click Scan.Put a check next to these:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {86227D9C-0EFE-4f8a-AA55-30386A3F5686} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {42F2C9BA-614F-47C0-B3E3-ECFD34EED658} (Installer Class) - http://www.ysbweb.co...sb_download.cab

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Update Avast, Ewido and Trojan Hunter for latest definitions.

Boot into safe mode:

Reboot and start tapping the F8 key before Windows starts to load. You will see a menu where you can enter safe mode. Select safe mode using the arrow keys on your keyboard and press Enter. Choose your username.

Once in safe mode, try running the scans again. Do they still freeze?

Also please save the Ewido log from the scan and post it in your reply with a new HijackThis log. Here's how to save Ewido log:

Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
* Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Regards,

Let's try turning off some unnecessary programs running first..

Open HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HTpatch] C:\WINDOWS\htpatch.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] c:\progra~1\common~1\instal~1\update~1\isuspm.exe -startup

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Also try turning off Automatic Updates from the Security Center.

Then check in your Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) if any particular process is taking up too much CPU..

Let's see if these help..

Nothin changed :tazz:

i've attached the screen shot of the processes running as a .doc file.. hopefully you'll be able to view it.. cos i'm not totally sure whats taking up 'too much CPU'.

Ewido ran but no infected files so didn't save the log.

wondering if I should just do a back up and reinstall Windows already..

Cheers

Well I can't view that doc file.

Anyway, malwarewise you look clean. I suspect you may be running low on memory..I'd say let's check your memory..

Go to Start >All Programs > Accesories >System tools >System Information

In the window that opens look for total and available physical memory, total and available virtual memory see if you're running low on either...
