My computer crashes at startup and says the following file is missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\system. Anyone know what this means or how to fix it? It wont let me start windows. I have booted from the XP CD to the recovery console but do not know what to do from there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well that means you're missing crucial system files. I've never used the recovery console, but I dont think that will help.

You either need to get a copy of the missing files, boot up onto a livecd and replace them, or boot up with your windows xp CD and do a "repair install". If you do decide to do a repair install, I highly recommend you backup your files (Boot up to a live CD and upload them to a site, or something...).
