hi, i've been getting such great help from geektogo.com and so i was wondering if you could help me with a different problem.
my laptop was working fine last night, i installed security updates from windows microsoft, and it restarted fine. when i tried to turn it on this morning, a black screen comes and a message reads "non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready". i don't have a disk, nor there was a disk in there before i did the updates. is there any way to fix this and get my laptop working again?
thanks!

oh i have a Compaq armada E500, with Windows XP

thanks for the fast response!

sorry but i'm a little confused on what you mean by:

"if it does restore the updates will not be on PC".

should i use the link and follow the directions on a PC?

i tried pressing F8 during the start up on my laptop, but it just goes back to that message "non-system disk....."

thanks again!

System restore would replace the registry as it was which is likely to be before you did the updates, so you need to install those again.

Non system disk is usually displayed when there is a floppy disc in the PC
